Oberheim MC1000 - 88 Key Master Keyboard - Worth It?

Unread post by Saul »

Oberheim-MC1000.jpg
Just mulling over buying an Oberheim MC1000 - 88 Key Master Keyboard. It's old of course, 2001 I think? And it could definitely do with some TLC! but a good clean would sort it out. All keys working fine though.

It is not a keyboard I have any experience with.

Anyone used one or know anything about them? I would only use it as a controller for playing acoustic pianos. The other MIDI functions are not of importance. I would not be wanting to control anything else.

As I recall, the keybed is made by Fatar, who make keybeds for a whole range of manufacturers.
I can't recall which one though.

Oberheim has a good reputation.

Just a few random thoughts.

Thanks John. I really know nothing about them. I know the name of course but never been near one of their controller keyboards.

I believe you could fit a Soundblaster card in them so that tells you how old it is

I think it was a good master keyboard for its day, and if working fine should be good. I guess the thing to consider is what the asking price is compared to a more modern 88 key controller.

Studiologic is the name that I think that John was think of? But fatar keyboards are in quite a lot of other designs.

Yeah that is the thing that is making me hesitate. It is old and do I want an old keyboard? Price is low though. I could probably get it for £50!

Probably a snap at that price then. I still use my SY99 as my main studio master keyboard

At that price, you can't lose. You can always sell it if it takes up room :)

True. I don't need to keep it. And with the price that low I should be able to at least sell it for the same.
