It appears to include a SCSI interface (worth confirming if anybody is interested), and they do not come up for sale often, so I'd say about the right price overall.

For your information, I bought mine, used in mint condition with SCSI and 8 MB flash RAM, for 350 € i.e. £310.

SCSI interfaces do not often come up for sale separately, but a lot of EX5R come up for sale with the SCSI interface already fitted, so the fact that this one includes a SCSI interface doesn't make it unusual.

This is simply a typical overpriced 'buy it now' offer for those that have more money than patience to wait for a more reasonable offer.

We'll agree to differ then as having different opinions on the matter. ;)

Exer, that as a very good price if you got all for £310.

It all has to do with availability and timing. If you want one now and the only one around is 499 then that's what you pay. If you can wait a year or more, you might find one at a lower price somewhere in between. But then again, you might not. Five years ago things were less expensive. Lately the prices have jumped up. The trend overall seems to be upwards.

Indeed. Value is very much a subjective opinion. :)

People pay millions for Picasso paintings, but to me they look like something a five year old could have done better on, and I wouldn't pay a £1 for one (other than to pick up a bargain and make my fortune by flogging it on ;) ). That is subjective as I know some people love them, whereas my idea of good art is something different. And don't get me started about Tracy Enim's Unmade Bed as a piece of artwork!

EX5r - 1998 for 4000/5000 DM ! ...and SUPERB !!! AN Synthesis + others !!!......-.STRINGS !!!

Youtube comment: gallen ar2 years ago (edited) ((i)) ((i)) ((i))
Sounds light years, miles better than the Motif series that supplanted it afterwards.
Yamaha went backwards in terms of sound, rather than features, after this one, I'm afraid to be saying.

If EX5 was released after motif XF, it would be an upgrade.

Think what it would have been worth if she had made it :)

Purcell,a friendly request. Would you mind refraining from using these big font sizes? It's like ALL CAPS SHOUTING and detracts from the rest of the thread....

I included your post above as an unedited quote, just to prove a point ;)

Thanks in advance :)

In terms of the comment itself, then, yes, Yamaha did go backwards with the Motif Range. The AWM2 side always sounded great, but it missed the additional engines. Arguably Yamaha allowed you to add your own choices in with the PLG cards for AN. VL and DX, but they were as fiddly to hell to use and not the same as the integrated concept of the EX5. And why introduce something like Formulated Digital Signal Processing (FDSP) in the EX5 and never use it again?

Don't worry, your MU1000 with AN and VL cards provides you 90% of the sound of the EX5.
