Yamaha EX7 firmware

Unread post by dragon_x » Wed Mar 07, 2018 1:31 am

Hello, I found a lot of information about the EX5 firmware, but unfortunately there is no information about the EX7 firmware.
My Yamaha EX7 has ROMs in the following versions:
Main ROM: 1.02 (98-03-19)
TG ROM: 1.00 (09-03-18)

I'm guessing that this is not the latest version available. From what I read on the forum, update rom is done by exchanging EPROM chips.
What is the latest available version of rom for EX7? Is it worth replacing for a newer version than I have? What benefits would it bring? My instrument has never been opened :), except for RAM upgrade :)

I was looking for a ROM upgrade to EX7 unfortunately to no avail. Only EX5 / EX5R chips are available.

Thank you for your help and best regards

The information in the quoted thread is not quite correct as regards the EX7.

The original Yamaha OS chips have a label mentioning "EX-5/5R/7 MAIN1[2]"
The original Yamaha TG chips have a label mentioning "EX-5/5R TG1[2]" (*not* EX5/5R/7)

___

► the EX7 TG chips actually do *not* have the same references as the EX5 TG chips (notwithstanding the version)

e.g.

EX7 TG 1.10 XT672204 XT673204 (AFAIK this is the last EX7 TG)

EX5 TG 1.11 XT352204 XT353204
EX5 TG 1.13 XT352205 XT353205

thanks for the answers, will I find somewhere information about the differences between roms versions? It's all about whether or not to look for a newer version. in Poland, finding rom chips is rather unrealistic, so there is a search outside the country.

If your EX7 works for you and if you don't have problems with it, then don't worry and make music!

I have 3 EXes with 3 different OS versions (only one of them has the latest OS) and I will *NOT* upgrade them just for upgrading's sake.

I do not have any problems with my Yamaha EX7 so far. I bought it a few weeks ago in perfect condition, almost like from a shop :) I was interested in upgrading rom chips because I thought that maybe it would bring additional features etc.

However, I would like to satisfy my curiosity and find out what are the generic versions of the rom chips upgrade. Is this information available somewhere? I did not find anything like that unfortunately

Thank you for your response and best regards :)

Hi,

No additional features were added in the upgrades. There is a bug list somewhere, possibly even on this site. Most of the fixes were to correct poor sequencer timing (if you do not use the sequencer this will not affect you) or to correct obscure bugs.

So, if you are not experiencing problems then do not worry, and enjoy your EX7. :)

I plan to start using a sequencer :) I hope that there will be no problems with it. If they were, will I be able to buy the right rom chips? I mean the right version that suits EX7. I do not know anything about programming chips, because I found files in the appropriate version on the forum :(

Hi.

Do you mean to plan using THE EX7 sequencer? Or you plan to use an external sequencer (like Cubase, Logic, Sonar, Reaper, etc) with the EX7?

The sequence issues I mention were with using the internal sequencer, which I have never used in my EX5 as I do my sequencing in Cubase.
