Yamaha Manual Downloads

Unread post by Saul »

Thought we'd add this to all the sections as many people are always asking for manuals. Nearly all Yamaha manuals are avaiable as a free download. They are in Adobe .pdf format so you will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, this is avaiable from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

The Yamaha Manuals Are Avaialbe Here

Courtesy of good people @VintageSynthExplorer forum I got hold of decently scanned version of Howard Massey's The Complete DX7. The book, as probably most of you know, is as good as the manual - actually it's way better than that. And a bit difficult to find.

If it's OK for the board admins, I'd leave links here. In original it was a bit heavy (around 120Mb), pages were 90 degrees to one side and two missing pages were tossed in the zip file as separate jpegs. This is a sorted, composite version, around 55Mb in total.

Thanks for posting that and making it available. I have a print copy, but downloaded the .pdf as a backup.

You're welcome Clyde! Also if you or anyone else has some other manuals that need some editing or optimizing for PDF, don't hesitate to contact me.

Good Day Everyone,
Just found this site so had to join! Some information I would like to share with you. I own a DX-7IIFD and a DX-5. My DX-7 is in working order and I have an "E" card that has yet to be installed. I purchased the DX-5 a few years ago in a non-working condition with the intention of correcting that (would have loved a DX-1, but we know how rare and expensive they are). Anyway it took me over a year but I was able to locate not only the owners manual and the performance note but also the repair manual and the diagnostic manual for these (almost impossible to find). All who wish to add these to their collection or post for anyone to use are welcome to these at no charge! I adore this keyboard and hope to restore it in the coming year. I also have a pristine copy of Howard Massey's book for the DX-7II. I won't part with it but am willing to convert the book into PDF and also make it available (No Charge). Now if I can just copy the included records into sound files you will have everything. I offer these because I love the synths that I have and hope to keep them in working order as you all should as well! The day may come when I shall need your assistance!
Thank you for your existence and hope to be of more help when I can

Dan,

Welcome to the forum - what an entry! ;) The documents would definitively have a great historical value (I'm mainly referring to the DX5 docs here), even if not many are out there who can actually use them for a purpose (in lack of the real thing)... Do you intend to post them somewhere, or maybe send via email, if requested?

Hi Dan,
Welcome to the Forums! Thank you for your offer, I'm sure all of those documents would be helpful to some users. I share whatever knowledge I can on these forums as a way of paying back the synth community for all of the help and knowledge that people willingly shared with me when I got started with synths in the mid '80s. I look forward to your participation here, hope you get that DX5 sorted out.

Good Day all,
Haven't been on in several weeks so did not see replies. To Synthjoe and Clyde- Thank You! The test program for the DX-5 is a 36 page document so I split it up into 4 files of PDF's. I will send to anyone to use or post as you wish. Thanks again

Just uploaded (to the Yamaha DX section) - The complete DX7 (Mark I) 70 page manual in PDF format WITH NO BAD PAGES (5, 18, 27 and 29 - PDF
pages 10, 23, 32 and 34).

As many have found, the various copies of this manual derived from the one originally released by Yamaha had these pages corrupted and virtually every copy on the net was a duplicate from this source, warts and all.

I just scanned and converted to PDF (with OCR) this new copy from my hand disassembled original that came with my DX7 bought new in the mid 1980's. The Table of Contents has links to all the listed sections. The color pictures are in color! No more missing text and diagrams on the four corrupted pages.

I hope this fills a needed gap in DX7 owner's electronic library as it does mine.

Cheers,
Rawl

That's fantastic Rawl. Thanks for taking time to do this. I am sure many DX7 owners out there will greatly appreciate this resource :)

Talk about "going the extra mile" ((i)) ((i)) I'll add my thanks on behalf of those who will doubtless be delighted to benefit from your work . . . .

Sadly, its true that some of these scanned originals are not well done - even by Yamaha . . .

They could do worse than offer you a small "gratuity" along with a request to replace their online offering with yours :D

It is especially important that pictures are clear - PARTICULARLY if their content is referred to, in the text . .

Thanks guys.

Amazing what you can do with a razor blade, a good scanner, and some Adobe software.

Too bad I had to "sacrifice" my hard copy but even I would rather be able to look it up online without PDF "corrupted page messages" than reach for my old hard copy. Maybe I can find someone to re-bind the original, LOL.

BTW, we just need 6 more DX7 Supplemental Booklets to complete that archive for upload. We need the following titles:

01 Quick Reference Guide
02 DX7s Quick Guide
03 Memory Management
04 Memory Management for the DX7s
09 Advanced MIDI Applications
11 Modifying the Preset Voices

If you have one of these please contact me. We can work it out (as the song goes).
