Emulating a BC3 ?

I would like to make a DIY controller which would replace a BC3.

Not necessarily a breath controller, but a physical controller which would act as a BC3 when plugged into the "BREATH" socket of my EX5.

So, could some one please tell me what a BC3 does, not in terms of function (I know it generates some form of variable electric signal from air pressure), but in terms of electrical specifications on its output?

E.g. (non-exhaustive list)
• what type of connector does the "BREATH" socket of an EX5 require? (3,5 mm TRS ?)
• what kind of electrical signal does the BC deliver?
• is it an active or a passive device?
• if active is it powered from the 'BREATH' socket?
• what current does it draw?
• does the EX5 output a voltage which is modulated by the device connected to its "BREATH" socket?
• what is the impedance of a BC3, seen from the instrument it is plugged to?

In short, everything I need to know in order to make a working controller that delivers the same kind of electric signal as a BC3 (notwithstanding how it generates it) and which can be plugged into the "BREATH" socket of an EX5 without risk of frying the EX!

Yes - as far I can tell from my EX5R and from the schematic

It's an active device, powered by -12V & +5V (Analog) - see schematic from the service manual (which you hopefully have...?)
• if active is it powered from the 'BREATH' socket?

I suggest that you begin by doing a Google search on "Yamaha breath controller circuit" (without the quotation marks).
