A small update to my old project. Finally, I have done all the reverse engineering work on the LCD Protocol that started a long time ago, and implemented it in a simple emulator app. Now we can say with confidence that it is quite possible to adapt a modern display. The following screens are emulated with real FZ-1 connected through the adapter (implemented on arduino nano) that converts data to the serial stream and send it to my laptop.

Indeed dmitrins . . .

THAT is fantastic . . . . (Y)

Even the Waveform display ((i)) ((i)) ((i))

Next question HAS to be - how easy is to get THAT inside a FZ/VZ . . . . ?

Well, I would say that it's about 5% of reverse engineering work. When you know how to interpret data, it's pretty easy to implement the algorithm in the firmware. The hardware is also very simple: CD4013 d-trigger + Atmega328p micro + a small bunch of passives. I don't want to make any promises about creating the final product, but even if I don't finish the hardware, I will share all the information and sources for someone who will. Also there is an idea about converting the emulator to android app, and porting current adapter firmware to the ESP32 module as a very cheap solution that will be available to everyone without buying LCD repacement. Just add a pair of resistors, install an app that will automatically download and flash the current firmware version, and you are ready to go :)

Good news. I've made some progress in firmware implementation. The text command already works and I can go through the menu. Although there are still some minor bugs to eliminate.

Thanks, guys. There's not much new to show... I did a few sketches of the aluminum bracket, a custom PMMA light guide. As soon as the PCB will be completed, I'll finally assemble the first units.
