I've been looking at the service manual and searching the webs for lcds all day.
I did come across a listing for a 96x96 cog lcd, there no other details of that yet.
I saw a number of 128x64 COG displays around 3" which should fit.
E.g. https://www.buydisplay.com/default/2-9- ... k-on-white
It should fit perfectly between top and bottom mounts. Left and right sides will be covered but we don't need to use them anyway, only central 96 pixels matters.
As for adapter's logic, STM32F103 MCU should do the job, as it has enough RAM on chip to buffer whole graphics and flash for fonts. Even more than required but worth a penny, so why bother. It makes possible to use small color TFT with antialiased fonts, why not?

Nice find ((i))
Looks very promising then, I notice they do a white on blue as well.

Coincidentally this screen you linked to is just a few mm bigger than the home made back light I made, interesting :-)
Based on the dimension shown, I made a template screen with corrugated cardboard of the same thickness.
It fits well.

It looks like a minor mod to the rear half of the original mount is need to fit the new screen in, width wise.
simple matter of grinding a bit of plastic off to match the non cable side of the screen.

The front half may not be able to be used. I'm not able to check that fully, removing the front half of the screen mount
will destroy the cable connections on the original lcd. I wont do that while it is still partly functional.

There is a midi board directly underneath the screen and it appears there is very little space
between that and the screen.

The new screen is held in with double sided tape (like it was with the original EL foil)
after that, small spacers between the mount and the mount posts.

it doesn't appear to foul on the midi board directly underneath either, in that respect it just fits.

one thing I have doubt about is vertical alignment of active area with the window, because this screen is asymmetrical in vertical direction :?

Casio

An interface as you said ..
to do something to the effect of: if input X0,Y0=1 then output X0,y33=1
if input X1,Y1=1 then output X1,y34=1

I'm no a programmer anymore, i did write games on BBC micros back in the day :)

The other thing that makes this difficult is the screen is mounted on a slight gradient
between to pcbs. An 85mm gap between the two.

Something like this, but coordinate translation is only tiny part of work. My idea is to emulate HD44350 chip which draws pixels and text to internal RAM. If any region of graphic RAM was updated, we should send it to external display with translated coordinates (X+16 to center 96px image on 128px display).

After looking at this photo I can tell it's will be easier than i thought. LCD will be mounted on the PCB which is about the same size as LCD itself. PCB will have 4 mount holes to fit the original mounts. If LCD will overlap with bottom mounts it may be two top holes and metal bracket at the bottom.

dmitrins, you can attach images to the forum direct from your hard drive. Sometimes it's easier than linking to externally held images.

Yapp - I've (sort of) 'corrected' the one with the pcb for him
Unfortunately the link of the schematic picture leads me to a Google 'Sign In' - not to show the pic itself... 8O otherwise I would have 'corrected' that too 8)

Sorry, i have fixed it, now schematic image should work.

I tried to make the PCB, but some traces seems to be broken, not much, may be i could recover it with thin wires.
