USB interference.

Unread post by krooner » Tue Jan 26, 2016 3:57 pm

Hi guys,
My MO8 usb connection to desktop PC seems to be a bit noisy. Is there anything I can do About this? It doesn't matter which slot is plugged into.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers.

I've cut both shield and black ground lead in all my USB cables and all is quiet now. (Y)

Oh yeah, and the Novation KS4 is now hooked up again(even though it has to rest vertically when not used)!

Hi

You cut the outer plastic around the lead, all the way around, in 2 places approximately 3cm apart. Then you remove the plastic and the shield mesh so that you are left with 3 thin leads. Cut the black one of these and patch it all together with electrical or other strong tape.
The last bit is important since you don't want to put any load on the 2 signal leads left.

Some times it works by only cutting the shield. For me it got a lot better with my MOXF after that but with also the ground cut it went completely silent.

Best of luck

Thanks zpink, would that be at the PC, or the keyboard end?

Cheers.

My own cables I've done closer to the keyboard and sound card. I have no backing for this but my thought behind that is that I assume that the shield is grounded in the PC and therefore the part of the lead that is most likely to pick up any interference is still shielded.

BTW you can of course test if your setup is quiet enough before you cut the black ground! ;-)

Hey, zpink,
What can I say, worked a treat!
Followed your instructions, and the result, total silence. Thanks very much indeed for your help.
