Finding firmware version and how to update firmware on tyros 1?

Unread post by RicoDorenzo » Thu Mar 08, 2018 4:00 am

I have place firmware 1.4 for tyros 1 on 14 floppy discs but I can't find where the tyros firmware version is located and how to access the firmware :cry: update program on the floppy disc.

The Yamaha USA site has the following FAQ, but I can't find it on the Yamaha UK site:

https://usa.yamaha.com/support/faq/keyboards/2337.html
1. Turn the Power on.
2. Press the [FUNCTION] button.
3. Press the button for UTILITY.
4. Press the [NEXT] button until the owner tab is displayed.
5. Hold down the button (about five seconds) until the version number is displayed.

The Yamaha UK site has a ZIP file with version 1.40 of the Tyros firmware, and the ZIP file apparently includes installation instructions:

https://uk.yamaha.com/en/support/updates/45030_en.html

System Requirements:
* Windows 98/98SE/98ME/2000/XP
* USB connection to instrument
* Yamaha USB-MIDI driver Version 1.61
* 166 MHz or higher Intel Pentium/Celeron processor
* 128 MB or more available memory
Included in Download:
* 1 Read Me file containing troubleshootings
* 1 Application file
* 2 PDF (Installation Guide, USB-Storage Mode Operation Manual)

Note that although the System Requirements don't mention anything later than Windows XP, and Version 1.61 of the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver, that's only because the instructions were written so many years ago. You should be using whatever the latest version of the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver is for your particular version of Windows-- e.g., if you're using the 64-bit version of Windows 10, then you would want to be using Version 3.1.4 of the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver for 64-bit Windows 10:

https://uk.yamaha.com/en/support/update ... 4_kbd.html

EDIT: Oh, I see you have the USA flag on your avatar, too. If I'd been paying attention to that, then I would have just stuck with the Yamaha USA site for everything! :)

I'm glad you got it sorted out, if the long way. :)
