Connecting a PSR and Clavinova

Unread post by Craig_b » Wed Nov 14, 2012 3:24 pm

Hope someone has some advice...

Any way to connect a PSR E433 or similar and a Clavinova, so as to play the PSR voices through the Clavinova?

Thanks

Hi Craig,
Welcome to the Forums! Please clarify what you want to do so we can offer the proper advice. Do you want to use the Clavinova as a midi controller to play the PSR? Or something else entirely?

What type of midi out does the Clavinova have and what type of midi in does the PSR have?

Clavinova has din-type midi in/out, PSR has USB in/out.

..another case of the dreaded missing 5-Pin Din MIDI IN/MIDI OUT sockets on some of the latest Yamaha PSR-type Home Keyboards!

Two keyboards, both fitted with Din MIDI IN/OUT Sockets are much easier to inter-connect!

Thanks for posting that Sonus! And there again, a damned computer in the midst of things, I absolutely would not buy any synth unless it has DIN midi plugs, don't have a computer in my rig anymore and don't want a computer in my rig. OK, rant finished!! It does appear that many of these new synths are not made for simple keyboard to keyboard midi communication anymore.

Thanks everyone for their advice. Will see if I can hook it up over the weekend. Just a thought - I see you get a USB to midi adapter - wonder if this may work?

I am always a bit worried about the use of the UX-16 MIDI adaptor.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yamaha-UX-16-US ... B000I1Q58W

They seemed to be designed to connect between a 5-pin DIN MIDI Socketed Keyboard and a Computer.

Whether they will directly inter-connect between two separate keyboards, one fitted with 5-pin Din Sockets, and one fitted with USB sockets?...I don't know!

There are two types of USB plugs and sockets, used for different purposes. (To Device/To Host).

I make a point of avoiding Keyboards not fitted with MIDI In/Out 5-pin Din Sockets!
