Yamaha LL 400 my new baby

Unread post by harryw » Mon Aug 12, 2019 5:48 pm

Dear members.

i would like to show you all my new yamaha .
it is a LL 400 , a rare and fine guitar.
handcrafted by the best, selected wood the lot.
i saw her just after i bought my LL 26, also a fine one.
but compared to the LL 400 ,well she's not really broke in yet.
but i doubt if she ever will sound as good as the LL400.
there is almost no playwear, one big downside though.
the former owner had a pickguard installed. the biggest and ugliest i have ever seen.
got it of with some heat from a hairdryer.and expected discoloration.
and yes there is a much lighter part when it came of.
a hard and nervous job,the stickyest glue ever.heard storys about pulling wood from the top.
luckely that did not happen, but it left some shallow grooves in the top. such a shame.
been busy with heat trying to get them out.
i will get her right again, can't keep my hands of her.

Such a shame about the pickguard although the place where it was doesn't show up too much in the photo.

A beautiful hand crafted guitar and I bet is sounds and plays fantastic :music-guitarred:

Was it a bargain or did you have to pay the going rate for it which I think is about £500/€?

Hello Saul

yes a real shame about the pickguard, it had to go.
would you believe the former owner had a gibson hummingbird pickguard glued on her.
had it fitted in a reputable shop.even worse.
he was young and the second owner, and the guitar came with no pickguard.
and they are so pretty without them,or even the stock clear ones.
the sound of the guitar is so nice,i have played a few.
but nothing like this.she is very light in weight.not in sound.
and she has a very thin neck. i am happy with it.
also i had to buy it, they dont show up very often.
and yes i paid 500 euro almost.

Well I would say it was definitely a good buy. They don't come up that often so are becoming rarer by the day. Not sure how many were made but I don't think it was a great number.

I am not a fan of pickguards either. All my guitars apart from the Dowina's don't have them. Dowina uses a thin transparent one that you would not notice was there unless you look closely. So you can still see the beautiful grain of the wood and that is the way it should be :)
