A3R white noise/electronics noise

Unread post by Vertamps »

Hello, I just purchased the Yamaha A3R ARE series, the electronic output has significant white noise to the point where it needs external eq to make it usable. Is this common? Any amp is a hiss fest. I took the processing board out to look at it and there is alot going on, multple ic's and some digital DSP going on. It plays and sounds great, i purchased it specifically for its electronic portion for playing live.

Hi Vertamps, welcome to the forum :)

The A3R is a lovely guitar and should sound wonderfully unplugged or plugged in.

I assume you checked the battery before anything else?

It definitely should not be producing any sort of sounds other than the beautiful tones of the guitar itself when plugged in.

I will make some dry line out recordings if anyone would like to compare. The guitar sounds great, but the built in preamp definitely has white noise coming out of it. This may be its nature, if I play more aggressive i can get above the noise floor and loose some dynamics. Of course acoustic guitars for song recording should use external mics.

My local guitar center has a Yamaha step down model with the same SRT2 pickup system, i will go to the store and compare them directly, i will return with my findings.

Ok but there should be no noise from the SRT system. You would normally hit the feedback zone way before you got your amp or pa loud enough to pick up anything other than the sound of the guitar strings.
