Are PSR-3000 style disks compatible with PSR-S900

Unread post by abps1976 » Sat Sep 08, 2007 7:42 pm

I have hunted in vein for specific registration/style disks for the PSR-S900.

Are the disks from the PSR-3000 usable with the PSR-S900?

Hope someone can clarify me on this, but I guess once the S900 has been out for a while, disks specific to it will be made availible?

YAMAHA PSR S900 KEYBOARD STYLE DISCS

Unread post by ray3637 » Wed Oct 24, 2007 5:05 pm

Hi Adam, have you had any luck yet obtaining extra styles for this keyboard. I am thinking of purchasing the Yamaha psr s900 keyboard myself but would also like to be able to purchase some extra styles.
Hamiltons Music Shop at Preston sell the Yamaha PSR S900 Keyboard for £1095 and include a USB Stick with 900 extra rhythms, but won't sell the usb stick seperately. I can buy the keyboard from Eddie Moors Music Shop for £895. Is it worth paying another £100 for the extra 900 rhythms ?.
Kind regards,
Ray

Hi Ray,
Welcome to the Forums! Just to offer some help on this topic, I did what any user that has questions should do (and while my info came from YamahaUS, it should be on all Yamaha sites). From the product description:
"The PSR-S900 is compatible with commercially available song/style data including:
GM — General MIDI
GM2 — General MIDI 2
XG — Yamaha extended Voice set
GS — for GS song playback
DOC — Yamaha Disk Orchestra Collection
SMF with lyrics — Standard MIDI File
KAR — Karaoke files
XF — Songs with lyrics and/or chords
SFF — Yamaha style files"

You'll notice that it says SFF Yamaha style files, so any style files that are in the SFF format should work. Hope this helps.

If any of you try Styles from the above link and they work with the S900 can you post the specific links here to save people having to trawl through them and find many don't work.

I may start a S900 specific section if there is demand for it.

Well i can open a S900 specific section but it will need input from owners. I will of course add what I can but not being a S900 owner there is only so much I can contribute.

If you saved the styles from a PSR-S950 then they're almost certainly SFF2 styles (Style File Format 2), also called SFF-GE styles (Style File Format, Guitar Edition). I don't know whether the PSR-3000 can play SFF2 styles or if it is limited to SFF1 styles (Style File Format 1, usually just called Style File Format), but you can easily convert all of your SFF2 styles to SFF1 styles using the free "Style Format 2 Converter" utility from Jorgen Sorensen. Note that you may still need to "revoice" the styles afterward using the free "Style Revoicer" utility, also from Jorgen Sorensen.
