Hello Yammerers. I'm ...

Unread post by Bish1309 » Mon Sep 10, 2018 2:04 am

From Iowa, USA.

Hello everyone.

You may call me Bish. I have a problem. I'm a Yamaholic.

1970, got my first Hollow body electric guitar. I still have it. 8O

Several years ago I picked up a Yamaha electric keyboard for church work.

Now I'm over the top with Yamaha drums to support my current and busy hobby. My "classy rock band" Radioface plays out almost every weekend.

My first Yamaha drum experience came with buying a set of Live Customs. I didn't appreciate them until I took them out gigging. Outstanding drums.

Now I just put together a complete set of Stage Customs that went out on their maiden voyage gig this past weekend.

I have a 7 piece Beech Customs Absolute that I just got off ebay. Still wrestling with that one.

Admittedly, I went all out and just received my first Recording Customs.

Hope to make some new friends and maybe run into some old ones from other forums.

Hi Bish, welcome to the forum.

The keyboard and string section are running well,
but we are definitely ready to see and read more about drums.

Best Regards
Peter

Greetings From Macon, Georgia USA!!!!!
Thanks for allowing me to join your forum. I am 62 years young and still a very active musician.
I have been a working musician since the tender age of 14 playing the first of what seems a million bars.
I have been a Yamaha guy for a very long time. My first Yamaha was a CS-50, I still have her....
I have had a CP-70b, DX7, DX7s, TX7, TG55, KX-88, TX1p, TX802, MO6, MOXF8, PSR-E363 and a truck load of PA gear.
I have a Motif XF8 provided for me at church. That may be what comes next.
I love the MONTAGE but the cost is prohibitive until I get the nerve to beg and grovel and plead!!!
I did a bit of FM programming back in the day.
The store owners loved me when I came in the store to get the salesmen back on the floor after 5 hours in a manual.
I still have my TX802. It is a strong and a useful tool in the studio.
I teach piano, guitar, voice and music theory and play in two churches on Sunday.
I am currently playing with Betty Cantrell Miss America 2016. We are crossing fingers that she gets a deal.
Anyway, Thanks for having me.
Current Gear:
Yamaha MOXF8, KORG KROME 61, Roland V-Synth V2, Roland A70EX, KORG X5dr, Yamaha TX802 FM Expander,

Welcome, Tony! That's quite an assortment of gear. I take it that the "PSR E262" in your list of current gear was actually a typo of "PSR-E363" as you'd listed earlier in your post. :) Not that it matters-- "typos happen"-- but being an owner of several PSR-E models myself, they are what I tend to notice first in other people's posts. :D

It is a PSR E363. I got it at Guitar Center. It is 61 notes with velocity sensitivity. It will do limited splits and layers. Built in speakers make it a great coffee table living room jam board for writing sessions. They make a 76 note version, too. It will run on 6 AA batteries. For less than $200 it is a steal. It is not a great player but it is functional. I keep it set up in my office.
P.S.:I did correct my post! Thanks!

Hi Tony and a very warm welcome to the site and forums :)

That is quite some gear list for sure!

First thing I noticed there was the KORG DW8000 :) I remember lusting over one in a local music store but not being able to afford one at the time I had to make do with regular visits to the store.

You were saying you may go for the Motif XF8 next? Have you considered the new MODX8? It lacks the on-board sampling but combines AWM2 with FM-X and it is a real performance keyboard well suited to a live environment.

Anyway, glad to have you here. Catch up later :)

I had the DW6000 before I got the DW8000. The Keybed was much better. She is leaning on her side in a gigbag waiting for that special occasion.
They were pretty straight ahead. It had 8 or so digital waveforms but it sorely missed the lack of pulse width modulation. I used a flute sound on it at the time. I think I used it for some organ sounds(terrible!). It did have portamento!!!!! YES!!!! I was so happy to have it. It was light and had some cool pads in it. The extra waveforms were unique at the time. It had pedal inputs for sustain and portamento that helped a lot. I replaced it with The M1 when it came out. It was a lot of guys first workstatiom. 16 note polyphony and a 5500 event sequencer. You store 1 song on a $60 ram card!!!!
I got a Peavey MIDI Librarian and had it upgraded to a Turbo Streamer. It was a floppy drive sys ex storage then added a midi sequencer playback.
