Sorry, its my sarcastic side coming through

I suppose I meant normal, as one who's resolve would melt away - and would burst into tears when faced with a chip that had had its lettering removed . . . .

We're made of sterner stuff in here ((i))

- That's not normal.
- What's normal?
- Normal is everyone doing the same thing.
- What about individuality?
- Individuality is fine as long as we all do it together.

Could very well be. The previous owner of the SY99 this module came from (mine) said that this was a replacement for a defective Yamaha module. I was under the impression that this replacement had been performed by an official Yamaha repair center (or a party authorized to act as such), but I don't know for a fact this is the case.
Gear list: Saleae Logic16, Rigol DS1052E (@100 MHz), some Xilinx FPGA boards, lots of screwdrivers and a decent soldering iron

Seven years later I re-discovered this card again in a box of other Yamaha stuff.

I gave it another go in the SYEMB05 test jig and it was just putting out static until I touched a part of it and it came to life.

Turns out that one of the PCB vias was open causing the memory ICs not to respond when needed.
I resoldered all the vias and loaded a sine wave into it. Back in the box it went for a re-test later. I'll report back in another 7 years
