SY99 for Sale in UK (Not Mine!)

Unread post by Derek » Sat Jul 28, 2018 11:09 am

Just thought I'd point this one out, and my advice on it if you are interested

It is £350 starting bid or you can make an offer. It looks in pretty good condition apart from some scratches towards the rear, which is a shame.

It is not shown powered (always a little suspicious, but maybe an honest oversight). So I would check and ask for extra pictures of it powered ans specifically ask if the backlight and floppy drive are both working. And it is unboxed, so probably collection only.

Based on all of that (scratches and if backlight and floppy are both knackered - probable but both are fixable) then £350 is then probably over priced

But you never know, the guy may be open to a good offer based on established condition and if there is no bidding activity, and thus a chance to get this iconic synth at a good price.

There is also no mention about whether it has the SEMB memory expansions or not, probably not, but worth checking.

If you are looking for a nice semi weighted 76 key keyboard for your studio (mine is my main keyboard in front of my DAW Monitors) then you can't get much better, and few companies now do 76 note boards these days. Plus you get the classic SY99 sounds, and one of the best FM engines that Yamaha did - AFM is far better than "plain" DX7 FM!

I just came across that same SY99 whilst looking for something else. If everything works it would definitely be worth putting an offer in although as you say, bit concerning that it was not shown powered up? If I were selling a keyboard I would definitely photograph it powered on. Having said that, he does state in the description that it is in "full working order".

I have a feeling it's genuine though and with something like this you would want to collect in person and make sure it works so probably not much risk involved.

The SY99 doesn't come up that often. If I had spare cash I would probably make an offer but as it is will need to leave it for someone else.
