Yet another SYEMB05 clone ???

The Yamaha SY99 is a synthesiser combining frequency modulation synthesis (branded as Advanced FM) and sample-based synthesis (branded as Advanced Wave Memory 2) and the direct successor to Yamaha's SY77/TG77

Yet another SYEMB05 clone ???

Unread post by EX5_etc » Sun Apr 05, 2015 3:07 am

The other day I was searching via Google for a nice SY99 logo to use as a startup screen in a new project I am working on. I found none to fit my needs so I made a few scans from the original brochure and then edited them to my taste. I'll post details about that project when and if it reaches a working condition.

While searching around I came upon this interesting board that looks to be a clone of the very known SYEMB05:

I have not seen one like this before and I do not recall if anyone has posted any information about it on this forum. It appears to be using only one memory chip, the Cypress CY7C1041. It's a 256KB 16-bit static RAM chip that equals 512KB in 8-bit format. The SYEMB05 uses a 16-bit data bus as I also recall. Now, if I knew what that little square chip does next to the memory chip it would be nice, as it could help me solve the problems I had with my 4MB expansion.

That looks like it was made by our forum member Cosyne. I recall he was working on a prototype SYEMB05 around the time Brian was. Can't recall the exact details but I'm sure there's a thread on here about it.

I do hope you succeed with your 4MB expansion and wish you luck with it.

Yamaha: SY85, TG500, A3000, PSR48, PSS780
Kawai: K4

Long Gone: Far too much gear from the 80's and 90's that went out the door for £££! Moved to soft synth city instead.

You are correct, here it is:

Not sure how I missed this one. Too much stuff on this forum I guess and not enough time to check on everything.

@EX5_etc

The small square chip is a PAL16V8 (Programmable Array Logic) and it does the glue logic needed to drive the 256KB 16 bit SRAM.
