Hi!
Is something wrong with an eprom or is it just a battery? First its display showed CHANGE WAVE BATTERY but the instr. was still usable. Now it shows the same plus WAVE CARD NOT READY. As no card is used SY99 probably hints at an unready sample RAM.
Every time I power it up, the synth is silent because system parameters have unusable values & the internal memory is cleared but it does NOT display CHANGE INT BATTERY. After changing some system parameters to normal values, the synth´s ROM-Preset section is usable & I can edit sounds but it crashes if I try to use the disk drive.
Might it help to change all batteries & install a new disk drive or is it more likely a dead OS? Who knows this?

I would definitely change that battery before doing anything else. It's a bit fiddly but there are instructions on the forum. See Derek's post here :

Hi, I would change the batteries on both boards before anything else, as per Saul's post which links to the guide that I have done. With modern synths from DX7 onwards strange things can happen if the static RAM batteries are dead.
Do that first and take it from there.....
You seem to be saying that the preset sounds are fine?

Thank you for those valuable replies. I hope I´ll also get a holder that (almost) fits. Yes, ROM Presets are usable after having edit insanse sys param. but in my case SY99 just makes them audible after having pressed some MODE knobs in turn. I guess Pattern -> Song -> Multi -> Voice.
Re: Dead OS or just empty batteries? - Strange values / System crash when using disk drive
The global parameters are stored in RAM like the patches, so if the batteries are longer good enough to retain the contents, this is why the global parameters are garbage.
