Looking to buy sounds

The Yamaha SY85 is a digital music workstation introduced in 1992. Unlike other Yamaha synthesizers of the time (SY77 and the SY99) the SY85 does not use FM synthesis. Instead, its sounds are based on samples, which can be layered and modified to create new sounds.

Looking to buy sounds

Unread post by jonescapone » Fri Dec 14, 2018 12:50 am

I am looking for anyone to copy or sell some sy85 sound disk, the floppy drive on my sy85 does indeed work! (which is great) but i have still ordered the floppy emulator drive (from china) and with the holidays still looming it will be sometime 2019 before they deliver it. In the meantime if anyone is willing to copy some sound disk for me (especially the r&b kit or the hip hop constuction kit) i am willing to buy and pay for shipping.

Hi,

I do not have an SY85 myself.

Why not try searching the 'net for some some sounds. E.g. I just googled "SY85 Downloads" and our esteemed site is the first hit with our SY85 downloads

And I found by searching for "SY85 sounds" yielded this one

https://chrisarndt.de/files/yamaha/sy85/sounds/ has 75 files in it, which should keep you going for a while :)

You will also find lots of Amazon/Ebay listings for CDs of "hoovered" patches. I do not agree with these as they often contain copyright material, so will not link to any.

As Derek mentioned, we are the first hit for SY85 sounds but of course there are many other sources.

I have uploaded all the sound disks I had, all of which were either copyright free or were posted with permission.

There are also plenty of sounds on Ebay but the intelectual property status of most of these cannot be confirmed which again as Derek mentioned is why we often don't link to them here.

Remember JC . . . .

ALWAYS format your floppies IN THE SY85 before you take them to the PC . . . . .

You should then have no trouble moving them to the SY, using those disks . . . . . 8)
