W5 W7 floppy disc drive

The Yamaha SY85 is a digital music workstation introduced in 1992. Unlike other Yamaha synthesizers of the time (SY77 and the SY99) the SY85 does not use FM synthesis. Instead, its sounds are based on samples, which can be layered and modified to create new sounds.

W5 W7 floppy disc drive

Unread post by W5Guy » Tue Feb 13, 2018 2:26 am

The disc drive on my W5 finally died. Can anyone recommend how to retrieve song data and save in a format usable in this current century? Thanks!

Hi W5Guy, and welcome to the forums . . . .

Why not have a go at fixing the drive?

look here: http://www.bustedgear.com/part_belt_floppy.html

Open the drive. Remove old belt, clean the pulleys, clean the head, fit new belt, reassemble

And that should be it . . . I fixed my Sy85 with one of his belts . . .
