Goodbye to my beloved DGX660

Unread post by EB5AGV »

Hi all,

I need to write this, sorry if you find this silly, but tomorrow I will say goodbye to my Yamaha DGX660, which was my first weighted keyboard and bought new by me on April 2018. It has been my main piano learning tool until I got the Yamaha U3H, which now fills the same space the DGX was, and so the DGX should go.

I own quite a lot of keyboards, but have special appreciation for the DGX660. I will miss it

The good thing is that it will have a very good home. I was very careful finding the right new owner for it

Am I the only one who gets attached to his/her instruments?

I get attached to acoustic guitars but not so much with keyboards. There are a few I have regretted selling over the years like the KORG Triton, Alesis Fusion and Roland Fantom X but on the whole, I am fine with it.

Acoustic guitars, however, now that is a very different matter. It is a much-overused term but there is something very organic about an acoustic guitar. Maybe it's the wood, the skill used in crafting it and the fact that even coming off a production line no two are the same because of the endless variations in the wood.

But I do understand how you can become attached to any instrument including a keyboard.

I also get attached to my keyboards, so you're not alone in that.

By the way, I was looking at the DGX-660 manual the other day and noticed that it can do portamento, which I hadn't realized. It really is an impressive instrument, despite being only XGlite compatible and limited to only two variations per style.

But now you've got me curious about the U3H, so you'll have to start a thread about it!

I was attached to my guitar.
Strange how an instrument can feel like a friend..

Perhaps is because we spend more time with them than with friends?

I am about an hour to farewell :(
