Jordan Rudess’ Custom KRONOS

Unread post by Saul » Mon Apr 22, 2019 5:55 pm

A special-edition KRONOS for none other than keyboardist Jordan Rudess! Customized for his upcoming Dream Theater tour, Jordan will perform on his very own model, tailor-made in an electric blue finish.

Really nice looking Kronos but I was more impressed by the rotating stand he has it mounted on (Y) :)

Fantastic keyboard player, but incredibly boring IMO, as is Dream Theatre in general.

All fantastic musicians with incredible technique (way beyond what I will ever have), but all trying to play 1,000 notes per minute with no feel. I've tried really hard to like them, but I'm afraid it is a band that I just don't get, apart from the odd track like "Pull Me Under", but that track and whole album is spoilt by the drums being too tightly tuned and way too high in the mix.

Mike Portney is of course a superb drummer, and I love him in other stuff like Transatlantic and The Neil Morse Band. I quite like Rudess in "The Liquid Tension Experiment" which is the band he was in with Portney and Petrucci before he was invited to join Dream Theatre.

There are people out there who worship them of course, and all opinions are valid, but I prefer melody, feel and space between the notes above technique. :)

It's the same with some guitarists. Incredible technique but it's all about who can play the most notes in the shortest space of time and reach as much of the fret board as possible whilst doing it. Can't say that has ever moved me but as you say we are all different and what floats one persons boat can easily sink another's ;)

That’s why Steve Hackett is the guitar god for me if I could only pick one. He can do the 1,000 notes a minute when needed (a certain Mr Eddie Van Halen got the idea of fretboard tapping after watching a Hackett Concert), but he has also done a guitar solo that is literally one note, dripping with emotion and feel (It’s called “Twice Around the Sun” from “Darktown”). If I could only pick one guitar solo ever, as THE best, it would of course be “Firth of Fitfh” from “Selling England by the Pound”

PS: not quite sure I like the paint job. A Kronos in Black is fine for me. The revolving stand is good, but I think Emerson trumped it with his rotating grand piano!

TOTALLY with you on that Derek - A million miles OFF the blues scale. True Solo Guitar. SO Steve and SO Genesis.

Er Yes. Showmanship of the extreme kind. I have that clip on an ELP DVD. Makes me quite queasy to watch it.

Logistically - I'd be honestly scared to be CLAMPED to something as large and HEAVY as a Concert Grand at THAT angle,

going round and round . . . :o
