Yamaha APX600 weird problem...

APX series guitars are designed with a focus on playability. Their thin bodies and cutaways that provide greater access to the upper frets, offer smoother switching between electric and acoustic instruments.

Yamaha APX600 weird problem...

Unread post by Slaggindragon »

I recently bought the thin body apx600. Love the guitar, love how easy it is to play. However, I am having a strange problem.

Everything works fine when I plug the guitar into any other amplifier. My wifes base amp, her Peavy amp, a few different amps at guitar center where I bought it. Everything works great!

However when I plug it in at my church it ONLY works when I turn on the tuner. (Strange). If the tuner is not on it wont make any sound, however a loud motorcycle like sound begins to play loudly through it with the tuner off.

Heres the thing though, I tried a Martin, a Luna and a Takmini acoustic electric on the same system with no problems. My APX600 just seems to have issues.

Someone said the cord length may be the issue, and a direct box may be needed, but again no other guitar has this issue, and my guitar works fine everywhere except here.

Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum and the string section. :D

If your guitar plays well through several other amps, but not the one in church,
the latter amp must be the culprit somehow.

Next time you try, make sure to bring a chord that you know to work fine elsewhere. (with YOUR guitar)

Could the church amp possibly have phantom power for mic. ?
That could disturb your guitars circuit.

I see no reason why the good lord wants you to tune your guitar constantly. :?

Best Regards

Hi, I'm having the exact same problem with my CPX600. It worked fine when I tried it through my dad's amp when I first bought it. I even played an open mic with it in early March and it was fine.

But I've tried it through 3 different amps at home and it doesn't work unless I turn the tuner on the preamp on...??

Very strange. I'll probably wait until my local music shop reopens amidst all this Covid19 stuff and see if they can take a look.

Cheers,

Jay
