CPX700 upgrades

The CPX are high quality series of acoustic guitars featuring tops made from select pieces of spruce on bodies and backs of flamed maple. The CPX is designed to provide great playability for on-stage performance with large and deep bodies that deliver a dynamic sound, bracing designs that resist feedback, and single cutaways that provide access to the upper neck.

CPX700 upgrades

Unread post by jodaromi » Mon Jan 06, 2014 8:03 am

Hi,

I own a CPX700 and I'm looking to upgrade it :-)

I've bought a Tusq nut but I was wondering if Saul or someone else can help me out with a few details:

I was thinking of getting Jescar frets... can anyone help me out with the crown size required for a CPX700?

Also thinking of upgrading the tuning keys. Which tuning keys should I go for?

Thanks a tonne! :-)

Hi, and welcome !

That's a lot of mods you have planned. :)
I know too little about refretting, but if you want to change the tuners,
Grover tuners are pretty good: https://www.grotro.com/grover
Please give some feedback and show your project progress.

Best Regards
Peter

Not ever considered upgrading my CPX700. Certainly I would not go as far as a refret. That to me would suggest I bought the wrong guitar and anyway would be a very good excuse to buy another ;)

Jescar frets as you know have a very good reputation so you won't go wrong there but as to crown size I'm not sure. Are you doing this refret yourself or getting a guitar tech to do it for you? If the latter why not just let him/her order the frets for you. They will have the tools to measure them (digital calipers) and then you know they will be right.

Never had any issues with my machine heads and they seem to hold tune almost indefinitely but as Peter said, Grovers are great quality.
