Not cheap analog machine

Unread post by davlippo7 »

I've probably had several "drum machines" going back to the DR880. I recently tried the Roland ACB engine but drum machines were never very exciting.

So I bought a used Elektron RYTM MKII to see if real analog was any more exciting. I don't really want to sink $2k into a drum machine but found one for $600 less.

I think the true analog with filters etc. makes a big difference. I just got it today and the sound is as you might imagine the best possible or currently available. I haven't stopped playing with it and hardly know how to use it. It's solid and about the perfect form factor.

Is it worth $1,400 used? So far I'd say yes but that's still a ton of dough. Depends on if you make a living using it then a million times yes. Your fans will love you for it. If you want rhythm sounds to die for this might be the one.

Don't temp est me.

That's discontinued correct? I could only find a comparison to the original not MKII.

yes, discontinued. And got a myriad of unresolved firmware issues.

But in terms of analogue polysynths buried in a drum machine, it's beyond compare, and arguably the best sounding drum machine of all time.

I've never liked the sounds of DSI stuff as synths for synth sounds, but for drum/percussion sounds, in this package, they're something special.

It really sounds raw, it reminds me of why I so like my Korg Wavedrum.

The sounds coming out of the RYTM are jaw dropping so yeah if anything sounds this good it's a keeper.

I'm not sure how I ever existed before I heard this. I was only living half a life I guess.

Added the Neutron but it's no saved voices it's a blank canvas of water coloring or doodling and you might not understand what you're doing like me.

The build is nice and the color is cool. I had a void slot on the stand that was seriously empty and sad looking. :( So I made it happy :D

I'm routing the Neutron into the MiniFreak input so some additional processing.

Contrary to the post title these are very cheap and affordable for everyone.
