The Yamaha SY85 is a digital music workstation introduced in 1992. Unlike other Yamaha synthesizers of the time (SY77 and the SY99) the SY85 does not use FM synthesis. Instead, its sounds are based on samples, which can be layered and modified to create new sounds.
I love my SY85 but have never been able to connect it to music editing/arranging software like Ableton or FL Studio for real-time interaction between the software and the keyboard. Am I just missing something obvious or is the only way to utilize such software to copy and load songs? I have never been able to get a computer to actually recognize the SY85, but haven't tried in a long time. Since I have a new OS, I thought I'd try again, but ask some experts for a change.
