I would like to connect my new P225 to either a EMU PROFormance /1+ or the KORG 05 R/W. Both units have the usual MIDI IN/OUT/THROUGH connectors with DIN 5-pin half circle layout.
Does someone know of a converter cable/interface or if this would work at all ?
your experience is highly appreciated .....
I don't have P225 and so I can only guess. I think something like this should work. Of course you will also need some USB Type A to USB type B adapter.
I'm not saying it will work.. I would try that, though.
I would not expect this interface to work unfortunately, this is intended to be plugged on a PC (host device). The P225 does not have USB host capability. And really even instruments that do have USB-A and some kind of host functionality, it's only for USB drives and nothing else. (But some synths like Montage that run full operating systems can do more).
I think the easiest way would be to connect this through a PC/Laptop via USB and then use this adapter to connect to other equipment. You should be able to easily route MIDI from P225 to/from the adapter with your DAW. In fact the simpler solution for routing (assuming you don't want to mess with a DAW) would be Cantabile, very intuitive. The lite version is more than enough and it's free after registering.
Yamaha Montage 6 / Yamaha MODX6+ / Yamaha P515WH
Roland GAIA2 / Roland TR-8S / Roland JX-08 + k25m
Arturia Keystep 37 / Roland SP-404 mkII / Yamaha SY77
Yamaha HS7 / Yamaha HS4 / Yamaha Pacifica 112VM

You could also look for "USB MIDI Host" with your favorite search engine. Such devices can usually act as a host for keyboards having a 'USB to Host' port, and provide 5-pin DIN MIDI in and out connectivity. There are sometimes compatibility issues, so I would suggest that if you decide to purchase a USB MIDI Host, do so where they have a liberal return policy in case things don't work out.
Many thanks to all of you! These are very good leads for me to get started. I very much like the P225 for its keyboard quality, as I play almost only classic literature, plus some ragtime. What I would like to experiment is more grand piano versions played via my stereo (Yamaha RX-V3900 with large KEF, Yamaha and ELAC subw. speakers). Also piano software got me very interested. Just curious to see how close I can get to the sound impression of a Blüthner model 1 played in a concert hall )
