Worth buying the 18000 song style pack from psrstyles?

Unread post by Jugge »

Hello all,

I just noticed that psrstyles are selling 18.000 Song Styles for Yamaha Arranger for $24.99 and I just wonder if somone already bought this and can tell me abut the quaility of the styles are and if you think it was worth it. I mean $25 is not that much money, but if it's just randomly collected styles from the Internet, I think i'll pass.

Cheers

Hi Jugge

Seriously how are you going to try out 18,000 styles!! I got a style pack from Charley on PSRTutorial website that had 2300 styles and I have been struggling to try and sort them out now for months. The one I have are all song styles which makes life easily and all have 3 intros, 3 endings and 4 variations and you have 4 OTS settings too. Work out how much time it would take you to test or scrap just one style using the endings and intros and OTS settings and multiply that by 18000 ... You could be an old man before you get to the end!!

Well, when read 18000 songstyles in a pack, I would suspect it's a lot of (excuse me) rubbish collected from the www, and also a lot of bad converted stuff.
You're right, it's not very much money, and that is what I think is the whole idea. People buy due to high number of items and the low cost.
But, that don't mean that it can't be a couple of files that may be useful.
A friend of mine bought such pack long time ago. If it's the same seller, I'm not sure about.
But, that pack was certaily not worth the money.
Cheers & Happy Playing. 🍷 🎶🎵

Hi Chris,

You're probably right abut that :D

However, if this styles are sorted in a good way that allows us to search for the artist or song name, it might save us some time.

Many of the other styles I found on the Internet dont have proper names and you have to play the style first to know which song it belong too.

Hi Jugge,
7 styles for 1 cent only looks like good deal. But if there would be let's say 100 really good styles and 17900 pure junk, how much time will you spend to sort them out? Is it worth to you?
Just my 2 cents - 14 styles :D

I've seen this before. It is most likely those styles were downloaded from the PSR Tutorial website. I saw some styles for sale on eBay that included my own custom styles that I posted on the PSR Tutorial Forum. Chances are you already have access to these style if you bought a USB stick from Joe Waters or downloaded the various keyboard styles on the main PSR website.

During the years I was happy to be able to donate and buy a couple of those sticks as zipped files from Joe to support his work and site.
Now I can see all the info about owner and admin as well as options to donate or buy is removed from the mainsite.
New owners and new rules. I'm pretty sure everything we know as 'the old' PSR Tut going to be very close linked to the commercial business. 💸💰

🤔
Btw, I can't see any good or strong arguments against sharing those files freely now, so I'll see what I have in my archive.
Cheers & Happy Playing. 🍷 🎶🎵

Hi Jugge,

Not sure who is selling the song styles on PSRstyles but I can tell you that when PSRTutorials was up and running I, like a number of others, help support the site by purchasing various packs from Joe. I can say that the one I have contains 12,000 files and is very mixed. The 'songs' are named for easy recognition and come in a variety of folders for different instruments.

eg: S700/S900/S550/S910/S970/S975/SX600/PSR3000/Tyros3/CVP509/CVP809/ etc.

The format is split between SFF1 and SFF2

The main issue is the fact that these were produced for a number of early instruments plus conversions by PSR members. As such, many will not reproduce well on modern keyboards as they cannot take advantage of the recent developments in such keyboards.

Whilst I found a number of files interesting and could use them at a very basic level, none could compete with the files that came pre-loaded on my G2.
Many music stores load a substantial amount of additional files as part of their marketing strategy and it is those files I use primarily.

One guy that has been incredibly generous in sharing is Emanuel Meier and a link to his site is below. From memory I beleive there are approximately 2500 song registrations. Easily converted in the G2 as it can convert the T5 musicfinder files

https://tyros5.ch/tyros5_musicfindertipp.htm

(Emanuel, if you read this post, thank you so much for sharing your Tyros MFD, greatly appreciated and I hope you don't mind me providing the link?}

Apologies for the length of the post, but hope this helps.
