CS1x or MU90R

Unread post by Blueray »

guys, I'm looking for a newagish sounding synth and found that I really like the CS1x older rompler type of sounds. I own a TG500 but found that it sounds actually more hi-fi than the CS1x, so I might need the Blue one.
Problem is, I can't find a reasonable condition CS1x around here. but I do find a MU90r in a good condition for $100.
I wonder if the 8mb MU90r would give me the same type of lower bit sounds of the 4.5 mb CS1x?
once again, I'm not clearly looking for the dance side of the synth, since I already own the AN1x. but I'm looking for the newagish sounds of an early rompler. and I should admit that both Blue keyboards, the AN1x and the CS1x stacked together is looks very cool :)
since I can't try both, may be the MU90r is what I'm looking and I'm hoping a lot from the performance mode. pls help me to choose. thx.

Hi Blueray and welcome to the site.

Personally I would go for the MU90r every time and if you can pick one up for $100 i'd definitely grab it!

Apart from the sounds the most important aspects for me would be the extra wave rom and the 64 voice polyphony....the CS1x only has 32. Also I think in terms of performance the MU90r is more flexible.

The only reason I could see for adding a CS1x to your rig is on purely aesthetic grounds, as you said, it would look good with your AN1x :)

Thanks for the quick reply Saul. I will seriously consider the MU90r, specially since I don't really need a keyboard and I assume that my AN1x will control the MU90r nicely and make me feel like owning a better version of the CS1x :)
but again..I read from SOS that CS1x is actually derived from the MU50, that's what make me think to get the MU90r since I hope that it would share the same (older/lower fidelity) engine than the newer. can anybody confirm about this? I don't even like the sound of the CS2x! the CS1x in a box is what I'm looking for, will the MU90R deliver? I'm afraid that it would sounds much more hi-fi and have different engine from the CS1x sounds that I'm after. thx again.

just want to share that I finally got the MU100 and happy about it. I just wonder that the RCA out would make it a less good sounding unit compared to the full fledged MU100R? Has anybody comparing these two side by side? thx.

I would not have thought it would make much difference, if any. I think the levels are the same in any case.
