I really like my PSR-E473. I didn't have display issues, which I was relieved about because I bought the keyboard during the time of the display flaw.I would like to have had the 425 for the extra keys, but when I took it on my trips to Ellensburg to sing and play for my mom before she passed away, I was actually glad to have the smaller size. I initially took my Casio CT-S1000V because it's small, but mom wanted to hear me sing. I LOVE the mic input. I take the Casio, without a mic input, on camping trips and it will be the keyboard controller. The PSR-E473 is the one I pay the most, almost always. It's in my little she-shed, tucked away for privacy. I was really interested in the Roland Go 5 because of the mic input, and there are tons more DSP effects for voice, including an auto harmonizer, but I did get the Roland Go 3. I might upgrade. Singing and playing is a must-have for me. The PSR-E473 and 425 really have decent sound and capabilities.
I apologize for running the topic up a side street.
For the longest time, having only 61 keys with the PSR-32 wasn't a problem. For some reason, 61 keys now feels a bit cramped (I learned to play the piano on a Baldwin Hamilton upright).
With a 61 key model, when you sit centered at Middle C, you have only two octaves to you left and two octaves + 12 keys to the right.
With a 76 key model, there are two octaves + 8 keys to the left and three octaves + 7 keys to the right.

No need to apologise. You will notice that topics often wander off with a life of their own here. We don't have a strict "on-topic" policy. We usually get back to the original topic...eventually

I'm an Admin at a forum that is geared towards telecom Interconnects (companies that install telephone equipment at customer locations). The site's late founders and veteran Admins have had a "stay on topic" leaning for quite a while to help aid with searches both external (Google etc.) and internal.
I'm in that frame of mind whenever I participate in forums.
Oh, my name is Paul.

Yeah we don't do that here. Never have and never will. The conversation flows just the same as if you were talking face to face. I have never come across anyone in a face to face conversation say hold on, we can't talk about that because it isn't what we started the conversation with.
It is easy enough to find information on this forum just by using the search box or ask and someone will point you in the right direction. It has worked just fine for 20 plus years

Sorry, I'm a newby. I've joined this forum because I bought a PSR-E473 a couple of years ago, brand new, for my wife. She hasn't played it at all, and I thought I'd have a go on it today. To my horror, I can hardly see the display screen, it's bright enough, but I can hardly distinguish the words for the numerous instruments. Does it need a light bulb replacement? Thanks in advance for any help..
Jeremy See noted on his YouTube channel that Yamaha will replace the LCD on affected 473s...even if the warranty has expired.
It should be noted that 473s manufactured more recently don't have the display problem. Unfortunately, the display issue could affect aftermarket sales of the 473.
I've seen many references to display issues with the 473. Knowing the 425 is similar to the 473, I'm trying to find out if the 425 has had the same problem. If all is well with the 425, I'll be ordering one very shortly!
Well....
The display screen on my PSR-E473 is beginning to go wonky after all of this time. Some of the letters are fading and I'm wondering how bad it's going to get.

If it's the faulty batch (probably is), it's gonna go completely.
I suggest contacting Yamaha support. This is a factory defect and they will repair it even out of warranty.
I finally contacted Yamaha about the screen issue. There has been even more fading They wanted me to send images of the sales invoice and the serial number on the back. I also took a picture of the screen and what is happening. I did, and they gave me the address of a Yamaha service center in Seattle, so it will be a day trip for my husband and I. We'll turn it into something fun and maybe sight-see...(NOT in certain parts of Seattle. Yikes).
I hope they replace it instead of repair. Jeremy See did a review on his experience and he was mad. Twice it took forever and they didn't fix the problem. They were trying to repair it. He bought his during the first batch, when the factory defect began to emerge. I'm not expecting problems but I'm hoping they will hurry. I'm working on some new songs and I need the mic feature. I'm kinda curious about the Roland Go Keys 5 because it also has a mic input. I will likely sell the 3 and get the 5.
Did anyone ever find out what was causing the display issues?
Perhaps there has been some corner cutting on the quality of components. Lack of availability, cost cutting etc Whatever it is, it doesn't instil a lot of confidence going forward.
Shelly, I think you are on the right path there with selling the Go Keys 3 and going for the Go Keys 5
