One thing is they were known as a great live band and while one of their most popular albums was called “Europe ‘72” a live recording of their large tour of Europe in 1972 they predominantly toured the U.S.
The GD’s studio work was varied and lyrically philosophical, but with an underlying strong flavor of Americana. I think they had a following across the pond, but not sure how large. In all honesty they were mostly considered having a “cult” following in the States by the intelligentsia, but it was a huge following that I doubt really fit the definition as “cult”.
