So, I got a Motif-Rack ES a few months ago, and then got a PLG150-DX which seems to working fine, except when I press "MULTI" and then press "VOICE" back again, when trying to go back to "VOICE" mode, the Motif-Rack ES gets locked up for a few seconds and then it finally gets back to "VOICE" mode, the problem is that none of the voices on the bank PLG1PRE1 produces any sound, and to what is worth, any other back on the PLG1 is set to "--:Silence", See pictures attached.
I also got a PLG150-AN and a PLG150-PF and none of them behaves that way.
Things I've tried so far:
* Firmware upgrade
* Factory reset
* Install the PLG150-DX on another Motif-Rack ES and then change banks and modes, but same behaviour
* Install the PLG150-DX on a MU-100 and then change banks and modes, and it works fine
Thus, I'm wondering if I'm missing any particular configuration in the Motif-Rack ES,
or it is the PLG150-DX that might be defective.
Well, after some time digging through the PLG150-DX manual and the MOTIF-RACK ES manual, I managed to somehow solve this.
Probably this is a trivial setup for those well versed with Yamaha products, but in my case it took me some time to figure out how to configure the plug-in cards so the MOTIF-RACK ES doesn't get locked up and the PLG1 banks don't end up with "--:Silence" voices (or PLG2, depending where the PLG150-DX is installed).
So, as I recently got a PLG150-AN, the expansion slots look like this:
Slot 1: PLG150-AN
Slot 2: PLG150-DX
Now, according to the manual of the DX, the parts for the PLG150 cards most be set as
Slot 1 -> Part 16
Slot 2 -> Part 15
This is done as follows:
- Go to UTILITY
- Press "PAGE >" until you get to "PLG1Sys" and set
. DeviceNo. = 16
. PortNo. = 2
- Press "PAGE >" one more time to get to "PLG2Sys" and set
. DeviceNo. = 15
. PortNo. = 2
- Press "PAGE >" one more time to get to JobSel
- Press the button "V" to go down and select "Plug-in Save"
- Select all the Plug-in cards and hit ENTER to save
- Hit EXIT to save the settings
- Power cycle the MOTIF-RACK ES
Apart from that, I also ensured that the proper voice is set in the first MULTI.
I'm not sure if this is necessary, but anyways, here is what I did:
- Go to MULTI
- Press MULTI again, and the MULTI button will turn red
- Press SHIFT and "PART >" and pass the part "16" until you get to the part "P2"
- Press the button "V" to go down and select "BankMSB | BankLSB"
- Scroll up/down the dial until you see a Voice name show up at the top
- Once you get a bank that you are happy with Press the button "^" got select "VoiceNo."
- Scroll up/down until you get the voice that you want
- Press SHIFT and STORE to save all your changes
- Power cycle the MOTIF-RACK ES
Now I'm able to go back and froth from VOICE and MULTI.
Hope this helps anyone struggling to make the MOTIF-RACK ES works with the PLG150-DX and the need to switch between VOICE and MULTI
