Yamaha pad compatibility chart

Unread post by DjkrsD »

Hello, new member here. I was wondering if there was a pad compatibility chart that included the DTXpress ii kit. I am pulling my kit out of storage and would like to update the cymbals, if possible, with some that are actually round. If there isn't a chart, I'm looking for information on which other cymbals would work with my module. Thank you in advance.

It's been a *while* since I've seen one of those (2007 maybe?) but if I recall, everything trigger input was single zone... meaning technically *all* Yamaha DTX pads and cymbals will (should) work, but only the 1 zone of each.

I don't even have a display kit that's all single zone; even the DTX402 (which uses minipin connectors, not 1/4", is still TRS... one of the cymbals is chokeable, and you can optionally use a 3 zone snare; likely 2 or 3 zones is a possibility with all of it's triggers. But in a nutshell, I think any Yamaha pads (that aren't the new 2 zone mesh or tcs) will work; even the new ones might work but their velocity curve might be all over the place.

The DTXpro (that comes with the DTX6k's) is so far ahead of the DTxpress II that I'd normally recommend upgrading that over the pads; but since your pads are all single zone, you might as well upgrade the entire kit: a DTX6kx is currently $1149 CAD/$999 USD and *so* far beyond the xpress ii...

Mark,

Thanks for the information. I don't remember if the snare is a dual zone or not, but one cymbal, the ride, has two zones, the main part of the cymbal and the bell. I appreciate your suggestion to upgrade the kit, but since this was a gift from my wife some time ago, and I haven't used it for a while, getting a new one would be a hard sell. I just wanted to substitute round cymbals for the pie shaped ones that come with the kit.

Like I said, any of the 3 zone cymbals should work fine; however I don't recall Yamaha having any 2 zone cymbals (it's 1 or 3 with them); they *did* include a bell function for hitting the cymbal *harder* rather than on the actual bell of the rubber cymbal to trigger (a Yamaha 3 zone cymbal like the pcy135); just be aware you probably have the velocity bell
