Over the next couple of weeks I will be adding the names and profiles of well known SG players to this category along with the names of lesser known players.
Stuart Adamson
The main reason why I bought my first SG was because Stuart Adamson played one. I first became aware of Stuart Adamson and his distinctive tone and playing style after hearing The Skids "Into The Valley" on the radio. By the time this single was released in the UK in 1979 Stuart had acquired his first SG, a Cherry Sunburst SG2000. Prior to this he had tried a few different guitars including a Gibson Marauder and on occasions a Yamaha SF1000 which may have belonged to The Skids singer Richard Jobson. By 1981 Stuart had acquired another SG2000, possibly an SG2000S, in videos it appears to be black but a very reliable source informed me that it was actually a "Lovely Deep Green" watch The Skids on "Rock Goes To College" BBC1981 on YouTube. After reading Allan Glen's biography "Stuart Adamson: In A Big Country" I think I can safely assume that Stuart acquired a SG2000 because he was a fan of Bill Nelson another SG player.
Stuart left The Skids in the early 80's and formed Big Country along with fellow guitarist Bruce Watson. In early Big Country videos such as "Angle Park" and "Fields of Fire" Stuart is seen playing his deep green SG while Bruce has a red SG1500. Around 1983 Stuart added another SG to his collection a Jade Green SG2000S. This became his main SG the other one was used as a backup, Bruce also started to use another SG a Brown Sunburst SG2000S which may have been one of four SG's apparently owned by Stuart.
I was lucky enough to see Big Country live on three occasions. There was nothing more thrilling than the sight and sound of Stuart and Bruce SG's slung over their shoulders hammering out the melody, chords and riffs to earl Big Country hits.
Sorely missed, Stuart passed away in December 2001.

Vivian Campbell
Guitarwise Vivian main choice is a Gold Top SG1802 with Lindy Fralin pickups but he has also on occasion been seen with a black SG1820. In an interview he once mentioned that he had purchased a SBG2000 I wonder if this is the Bejazzled guitar in the picture above.
Joshua Ray
Joshua Ray, Guitarist, songwriter and music producer was chosen over 4000 other guitarist's to reach the national finals of Guitar Centre King of The Blues contest. Since then not only has he become Shania's lead guitarist but he has also toured with Koshi Inaba and Beth Hart. Joshua plays a number of SG's examples being a Black SG1820, a Tobacco Burst SG1820, a Gold Top SG1802 along with various other Yamaha models.
Bob Marley
Bob used his Brown Sunburst SG1000 during The Wailers last tour in 1978. It was the subject of a legal case in 2008 when it came up for auction at Christies. Aston Barrett, bass player and founder member of The Wailers, sued claiming that the guitar was given to him by Bob after the last Wailers tour.
The person selling the guitar had apparently been given it for safekeeping by Aston and they should not have been trying to sell it. The guitar was withdrawn from the auction.

What guitars did you use on Enclosure?
My main guitars are Yamaha SG2000's. My favourite is a purple one from 1980. I have a few others and a few SG1500's. I switched from the Strat to the Yamaha's in late 2010. I've played the Strat once in the last three years and only on one recording.
Why did you switch?
A guitar makes you play a certain way. A person who studies Jimi Hendrix's playing a Les Paul is at a disadvantage, you won't really understand what he was doing with his hands. The way the instrument's harmonics respond to the movement doesn't have anything in common with what you hear on the record. A (Yamaha) SG is a lot like a les Paul, it has a similar sound and responds to the hands in a similar way. It was an opportunity to change my style. I was looking for a way to have a new approach to the guitar and at one point I thought of not using a pick. But the problem with that was that I couldn't play along with the records because only two guitarists I like play without a pick.
Who?
Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac and Jeff Beck who hasn't apparently used a pick in 20 years. Those guys get such a wide range of sounds, but it would be impossible for me I don't practice by playing in bands but by playing along to records. I'm sure those guys could play along with anybody but it would've taken me years to be able to do that. So I bought a SG because I'm a big fan of John McGeoch from Siouxsie and the Banshees and Magazine. When I'd play along with his records using a Strat the parts sounded too thin and weak for the simple power of his playing. In learning the SG I had to teach myself to bend in a brand-new way and use new muscles to do vibrato. Everything had to change, I felt totally incapable on the guitar, it lowered my technique significantly. Where when I could pick a Strat and attack it, I couldn't do anything with the SG.

John McGeoch
John McGeoch played in Magazine, Siouxsie and the Bansees, Visage and Public Image Limited. An avid SG player John favoured the SG1000. Information also suggests that he liked to use the SG1000S, it's thinner body would have made this model a lot lighter that a regular SG1000. This may have been one of the reasons why he liked it or it could have been that it produced a different tone. In the picture below John can be seen with a pair of Yamaha SG1000S models.
