EX5Tech.co.uk Resource Site

Unread post by Derek »

Hi, all.

Well the initial work is done, and between Jim and myself we have trawled our EX5 archives to get together an EX5Tech.co.uk resource site until the real deal EX5Tech.com can be resurrected, which we hope that Ski will be able to do one day.

All it needed was a good curry to get it going! :)

Thanks to Jim for the website itself and the design.

The site provides all the resources we felt we could make available, linking where appropriate. As well as patches, there are guides, FAQs and software.

There is also a link to the latest WAYBACK Machine archive that we could find of the EX5Tech forums before they went offline, so at least the forum data is available, even if it cannot be added to.

Derek,

Hello again!

Just discovered that you were on this site. I had wondered what happened to ex5tech.com. I was afraid that I wouldn't ever be able to see the amount of support info that existed back in its heyday.

I'm glad to see that there is still support for this beast. I still have my EX5 even though it is stored away until I get my workshop completed. I also bought upgraded firmware chips even though I haven't installed them yet.

Looking forward to seeing what will come,

Keith

Yikes! Was it three years ago that Jim and I set this up? 8O

The problem with the main EX5Tech.com site is its forum was running on a very old version of PHBB and for some reason the database for the forum got corrupted and Ski (who was the only one with access as it was his site) did not have the time to fix it, and as time went on, the will was not there. The fact that there was so little site traffic at the time it happened probably did not help either. Why go to all of that effort for a few posts a day?

Don’t think bad of Ski, though, he had (and assume still has) an insane job workload, so did not have much free time. The only thing we did not understand was that we offered to help, but it was not taken up. I also think Ski’s main interest in synths had moved on. He was doing a lot for Dave Smith (aka Sequential) In terms of patch creation.

So it’s a huge shame the resource has been lost, but hopefully what Jim and I have managed to curate is some compensation, as it also includes most of the long defunct AMPFEA EX5 archive (which was larger than EX5Tech) and of course we have all of the excellent sounds that Ski created when the EX5 was his main board.

And of course Jim and I and other EX5 fans are over here.

Enjoy.

This is great. Thank you so much for all the hard work, Derek and Jim. It's truly a wealth of resources that you guys have provided over the years. I still frequent the site and try to find new horizons of inspiration, whether it's through new patches or through the old archive's stories.

Thanks. It’s great to know that it does have utility. As you may have seen, we did not have a wealth of responses to the announcement! ;)
