Hi folks,

I am not sure if anyone has heard of (you possibly have) or used/installed an anti-tracking s/w called 'Duck''?

https://duckduckgo.com/

My brother-in-law recently told me about it, and highly recommends it.

This is quite an interesting quick overview (if you can get past the annoying presenters!):

Yeah that's been around for quite a while. I have used it in the past but no matter what they claim it still doesn't do as good a job as Google.

Cheers Saul,

Do I UNINSTALL Google, and therefore Duck replaces the former? Or do I INSTALL Duck over-the-top of Google (if you know what I mean)?

Just install Duck, it's a separate piece of browser software.

Saul,

The reason I ask is because I bought a new handset last month; a Nokia-3:

https://www.nokia.com/en_gb/phones/nokia-3

Actually, it's damn awful because all Nokia phones are now Google/Android (I much preferred them as Windows).

Duckduckgo ... is a lame duck.
Unfortunately not to compare with google.
Many search results from google do not appear in the "duck".

"Actually, it's damn awful because all Nokia phones are now Google/Android (I much preferred them as Windows)."

"I much preferred them as Windows" - for good reason!
The microsoft phones can do really all!
You get some navis for free. HERE etc. Not superb...but ok.
I bought two of them - so far.
And if it's broken - I buy a third right away.
It´s the Microsoft 640...I use. Don´t buy a cheaper one ... 520, etc. Take 640 and you are happy - forever  .

Hi Purcell,

The Nokia-3 was £129 so I am hoping to get at least 3/4 years out of it (like I did with my previous Nokia-Lumia).

For the purposes of a mobile-phone (ie. not on one's main laptop/desktop), is Duck OK for such a purpose?

Hello!
duckduckgo versus google

https://www.google.com/search?q=duckduc ... 8&oe=utf-8

Scroll down for "english links".

If duck is superb or even better...google won´t exist anymore.
Duck is a real problem..."with ever missing links". Roughly said: You get +/-50 %.

Also this: DuckDuckGo: The mistaken belief of the NSA-safe search engine ...

OK, cheers Purcell.

I may test it out and, if I don't like it, UNINSTALL it.

In actuality, I was hoping to hear more positive comments about it!

For real anonymous surfing you need to go through Tor Browser, which is the dark web's browser of choice https://www.torproject.org/

You will certainly find a LOT of things there that you would never find using Google! However even though it is "mostly" anonymous the security services do have ways of tracking people through it although not as easily as on a normal browser and search engine.

Anyone tried RedMorph browser controller. (redmorph.com)

It tells you just what trackers are trying to get at your info. and allows you to set various levels of blocking for each site.

Seems to be one of the better ones but, naturally enough, it does seem to slow down the page load process a bit.

Hi,

Do many users modify the 'settings' on their handsets so as to disable certain function(s), of which the manufacturers would rather we left active:
