What do you think of the THR10 tremolo effect ?

Unread post by 314159 »

After buying my THR10, I was mainly using the Flanger and Phaser effect. Then I progressively learned to use the Chorus, that I did not like too much at beginning.

But concerning the Tremolo effect, I have only one preset sound over 40 using it. To my ears, it seems it is usable only at the lowest values. If you turn the knob too far, it seems you obtain quickly a sound that can not be really used for music :? ... Strange and funny but not very useful. That is my feeling as a beginner.

:?: What do you think about the tremolo of the THR10 ? How do you use it ? For what kind of music ?

I share your point of view on using chorus, I used to HATE it.
 If you use really heavy chorus it sounds terrible and out of tune.
Just use it sparingly, just to get a fuller sound, and like flanger, DON'T let it run too fast.

When it comes to tremolo, I mostly use it for vintage sound effects, here are some examples:

Quick guide on tremolo settings with a pedal .... works the same when using THR editor.

 Tremolo is the oldest guitar effect, it turns the volume up and down at different speeds and intensity.

Tremelo is not an effect I have ever used that much. In fact most effects are not really useful for me other than a little reverb here and there. It definitely has it's place though although as with most effects I think a little is better than a lot. The usefulness of a Tremolo when at it's highest settings is beyond me but I guess there will always be someone who can do something with it musically speaking.

To my recollection, it was mostly used with electric guitars in the 50s/early 60s, and present in amps of that period often along with spring-line reverb . . . .

Personally, I don't think it adds much if just "switched-in" for the hell of it . . .

It CAN be more interesting if made to operate in time to the Music. Waa-Waa is similar - in this respect . . . .

Like in this example, Eric's waa-waa rhythm-guitar playing is following the beat closely. . .0' 19" - 0' 22", 1' 07" - 1' 11"

Thank you Buzzard, Saul and parametric for you answers and your inspiring videos. I think the problem is that the knob of the THR10 increases simultaneously the frequency and the depth of the tremolo, with the depth beginning at 6.3. I think it is better to set independently the depth in the THR Editor: I prefer it around 4.5-5.0.

You got it

The single effects knob on your THR controls speed(frequency) and intensity(depth) at the same time.
To get full control of ANY of the available effects, run your THR editor.

Compressor and Noise gate can only be controlled via THR editor.
Saving a patch on any of the 5 preset buttons lets those effects work too even if you are not connected to a computer.

Peter

I think it's OK, but could be better. I'm trying to get the classic Johnny Marr How Soon is Now tremolo sound, and can't get it quite right. I find turning the mix to around 50, and depth at 50, and speed around 30 gets me in the ballpark, but if you increase the mix over 50 you get some strange artifacts in the sound. I've got a Fender Deluxe Reverb with tremolo, and I find that easy to get that How Soon is Now sound, but not on the THR10.
