You can order for delivery and still have time to check them out at home to decide if you like them.

I noticed that John Lewis list them but say they are out of stock and they are to "unlikely receive more stock of this item" so either they just decided not to sell them anymore or they are being discontinued.

I suspect the latter.

Amazon said it's 2/3 weeks delivery as the Sony headphones are discontinued and so are being shipped from abroad.

Hi,

Maybe I am going blind, but can anyone tell me what OHMS these Bose phones are, please?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01 ... 1OLE&psc=1

And do they support 'aptX'?

Ta,

Paul

I couldn't see the rating anywhere, not even on their own website or in the user manual. It's a mystery!

I suppose that the impedance isn't any relevant if the headphones can only be used 'non-wired' (=wireless) - the 'amps' are inside the headphones so it doesn't matter at all. 8O 8)

Miks,

Both sets of phones I listed earlier this week and today have the option for bluetooth and wired connections. But yes, in a 'wireless' scenario the question is irrelevant.

Auf Wiedersehen,

Saul,

That's what I thought. Seems weird not to list it anywhere?

Anyway, I skyped Bose (they are based overseas it seems). It took the agent 11 mins to answer my 2 questions (I don't think they are especially high-tech queries):

The OHMs rate falls between 38~50.

These phones (Bose SoundLink ii) do not have 'aptX'.

Paul

"aptX": what does this mnemonic stand for, please? And would you pay extra $$$ for a pair of phones offering it?; I mean, can you HEAR the difference?

Hi,

The Sony agent I also Skyped earlier was excellent (leagues above the embarrassing Bose staff - again!).

These phones:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... 1OLE&psc=1

are not 'hi-resolution'. I think 'aptX' is exclusive to Bose (though I may be wrong?); but anyway, the Sony's don't have anything like that either. Nor do they feature Sony's 'LDAC' (Lossless Digital Audio Coding???) - which is featured on more up-marker Sony models.

There is no preset EQ built into these phones (like they are on the Bose) which is a good thing.

Ta,

Paul

<EDIT: Lossless Digital Audio Calibration>

Sounds like Sony are on the ball then. Always good to hear feedback on how these larger companies operate in terms of customer service :)

I don't think I would like preset EQ either. Why would anyone want that? This is like someone else telling you how you should hear your music, never a good thing for a musician.

So are you going with Sony or still undecided?

Its an increasingly irritating problem.

MicroSoft are Particularly fond of "lording-it" over their customers and forcing them down routes

THEY consider are the way it should be done. :x

With Headphones - you want to be sure that you are hearing the result that appears at the H/P socket UNMOLESTED . . . .

YOU then decide if it needs anything . . . . .

I believe that these bells and whistles are forced on us in an attempt to justify outlandish pricing . . . .

I used to guard My Sennheisers carefully at work - (no "borrowers" allowed) - as I used them to track down faults in

Studios and Concert rigs.

I needed to be sure I was hearing the problem UNCOLOURED - to help determine what and where it was . . . .

I'll except "noise-cancellation" (if your situation would benefit from THAT)

but HPs with built in effect? NO THANKS!

The Sony phones are now out-of-stock! So I have asked Amazon to email me when they are back in.

As I say, the Bose SoudLink were so amazingly comfortable, and worth every penny; however, I am concerned over the preset EQ. I think I might kick myself later down the line. Though apart from that, they were excellent.

Sony Tech Support was leagues above Bose's.
