Light hearted - but there's a real message there . . . . .

I think it's summed up nicely even though this is a comedy interview.

When you're uploading your stuff on someone else's servers, you're one step closer to going public.

I use a 1 tb external drive to save all my stuff, it could be stolen, but at least I have some control.

Precisely Peter,

In addition to my Clone drives, I also periodically copy my entire data drive to a networked Drive I have (2 x 2Tb) on my internal (private) network . . .

There are many reasons for data loss - HW failure/Hacking/Viruses/Physical theft - but the reason becomes irrelevant when you have lost your data . . . . . so all you can do in the end is BE PREPARED 8)

I'm with Chris on this one - you can't be too prepared. The iMacs are backed up alternately to a 2Tb portable drive and a partition on the Synology NAS on my private network, all working documents are on the NAS, the NAS is backed up thrice daily, once to a separate non-array drive in the NAS, once to an external 2Tb drive in a cooled enclosure and mission-critical NAS content once to an external 1Tb drive in the cooled enclosure. The entire NAS is completely dumped monthly to a 2Tb portable drive stored outside the house. The Cloud? Never, while there is breath in my body, will my backups (or data for that matter) reside or be committed to the Cloud. In decades in the industry I have yet to meet any person or organisation I would trust with that.
