Sorry for opening this old tread, but has anyone got his "clicky" keys fixed by Yamaha ? Any alternative way to deal with this problem? I will have to bring mine to a service center and would like to know is it going to be an useless effort....and waist of time and nerves

Hi Kolev, welcome to the forums :)

You never need to worry about resurrecting an old thread on this forum. (Y)

Have you checked out this post by another MODX owner with a noisy key problem?
viewtopic.php?f=129&t=15679&start=15

Scroll to the bottom of that and you will see what was causing his key issue. Not sure it will help but there is always a possibility :)

Thanks for the welcoming and the hint Saul. I am glad to hear that they can deal with this problem. I might have the same issue, although in my case that insulation pad might have turned loose in at least three different points on the keyboard. I am really pissed cause this instrument stays all the time at home and it's my main everyday practicing tool. BTW , I bought it quite some time ago and at that moment there were no reports of faulty keys yet . Prior to that I had S80 without any issues (and A80, PC88,XV88 as well) All of them had a problem with the keys at some point of time except the S80 (I was giging really a lot then) so I thought buying an YAMAHA I made a quality choice. I am really pissed that I have to deal with such a problem at those dark times

I absolutely agree with those sentiments Kolev.

These keyboards are not particularly cheap and the quality we have expected from Yamaha in the past does seem to be waning.

It used to be the case that you buy Yamaha and you buy superb build quality with excellent customer service. And whilst there are still elements of that it now seems to be erring toward luck rather than design.

However, before we get carried away. Are other manufacturers any better? Have there been problems with Roland and Korg keyboards in the past? Do a Google search for 'Roland noisy keys' or 'Korg noisy keys' and you will see what I mean?

On the plus side, Yamaha WILL sort it out for you. Unfortunately in the USA, that means you taking it to your nearest service centre or paying for and taking a risk on shipping it.

Here in the UK, the responsibility sits squarely with the retailer to sort it all out.

Many Yamaha service centres in the USA are now open again. I am not sure about other countries. Here in the UK I "think" they are still closed but that will probably change over the coming week as it seems we are now coming out of lockdown.

So right, so right. At the moment I heard the the keys clacking I said to myself"Yeah, that's the consequence of buying the cheap GHS(whatever) keybed" ....and naturally hack an evil plan to buy the praised CP88 until I read that they've got the same syndrome. BTW, I live in Brussels and now I am going to the shop I bought it from to see what will they suggest

Some thoughts about the quality: I have a Montage 6 and a MODX 8. Especially the Montage was / is in heavy usage, being transported in a soft bag a lot. The quality of the Montage is just awesome. Best instrument I ever had in terms of features, sound, firmware updates and ... quality. It is very sturdy, everything feels good. No problems at all over the years I have it and I was one of the early adopters. So the quality is really superb for the Montage.

My MODX had the clacky key problem. I sent it in for fixing a year ago or so. It came back with a broken mainboard, so did not switch on again at all. Sent it in again and it was fixed. Since then no problems anymore. The keys are fine, now. It feels (and actually is for what it offers...) pretty cheap but so far no further problems.

Stevie, thanks for sharing your experience with the MODX8. It's a relief to know that they can fix this issue cause I already have 5 clacking keys. All of them white. Luckily the keyboard is still in warranty( 2 years I guess) untill 18.12.2020 so I'll spend some serious practicing on it to provoke as many keys as possible and then will bring it to the shop....
