WINTER NAMM 2019

NAMM 2019.png

Not sure there will be any big announcements at Winter NAMM 2019 although I do know KORG and CASIO have some "interesting" products lined up ;)

No doubt there will be some new or updated pro audio gear from Yamaha in the form of mixers, speakers etc. Could we see a replacement for the MX series thought? That entry level is looking a bit dated now we have Montage and MODX. If they bring out a replacement for MX it will be a clean sweep for 2019.

As for KORG we already know they will be introducing some new Volca instruments but can't say those appeal to me at all. They will be very popular though, there is no doubt about that. The real question is will KORG finally replace the KROME? It is way past due an update but what do they do now Yamaha have MODX cleaning up in the mid-range sector? KRONOS Lite perhaps?

Roland seem to be releasing products all the time so not sure they see NAMM as the "big launch show" anymore. In fact it is probably like that for most companies these days. NAMM is really reverting to it's core reason for being which is as a B2B show which is why it is "Trade Only" even though the rest of the world get's a look in via social media and the thousands of blogs that cover the show.

There are always plenty of new guitars on show for NAMM though and the return of Gibson for 2019 is very welcome. Not having one of the most iconic brands in the Guitar world at NAMM 2018 was very odd indeed.

Is there anything you are looking forward to or hoping will be announced at Winter NAMM 2019?

Will be interesting to see what Korg do re the Kronos. There is still nothing to touch it (it is a a different beast to the Montage). Being selfish, I hope they do nothing to it, as it means I won't get the Korg GAS! :)

Ha ha, yes that's the problem isn't it? But then again you could sell on your KRONOS to part finance a new one...if of course it was substantially different from the one you have. Not sure how they could improve it to the point where people would think a new keyboard was essential but, perhaps that is the case?

I personally think the Kronos is still current and relevant, so would indeed be very surprised of Korg suddenly replace it. It is a fine control surface, the touch Screen is intuitive (more so than the Montage), so I think the best thing Korg could do, and captialise on all of the R&D they have put into the Kronos, is to bring out more models for it. I would be quite happy to pay for those as an upgrade if they are something I want. If processing power is a concern of the current motherboards, then maybe a MOD kit that you can fit a new, more powerful motherboard. That is the power of using PC based components.

I think you are right that they need to refresh the middle ground, which the MODX appears to be cleaning up on, so would expect it to be more likely to see something new at that price point.
