Genos Electricity Precautions

Unread post by technologist38 » Sun Jan 13, 2019 1:07 pm

Hello Genos Owners,

Today is the first time the electricity went off my Genos while I was playing. I immediately disconnected the power cord. I don't have stabilizer yet but I will buy one very soon. I'm worried a bit if this is going to affect the instrument. Alternatively, I am considering buying a decent home UPS which has a built-in stabilizer on the fly.

Does anyone else happened to witness a sudden power off while playing?

Hi. A power off should not do much harm, unless you were writing some data to memory at the time, maybe that corrupted.

I always gig with a UPS, so a worthwhile investment for peace of mind. Our power at home is pretty stable and outages are rare (for now), so I don't worry too much at home

Definitely worth investing in a UPS. We had a power out here the other day. Only for a split second but my Mac has not been the same since. It is now very slow to boot and there is a noticeable delay on opening programs or clicking on things. Given that the Genos is essentially a computer in a keyboard I would definitely be protecting it from any sort of power outages!

At the very least have a distribution board with a spike protector/suppressor.
They can be bought everywhere for just a few quid more than the usual multiple mains outlet boards.
It's the mains spikes that can kill anything electronic.

Hello:

Here at Spain we have an issue with Genos: before an equipment demostration, we were doing a firmware update, and suddenly electricity went off. Then, Genos could not be able to start again, got stuck on starting screen.

It needed a new motherboard replacement.

So, my opinion is this: and UPS is essential for a serious studio: a lot of time my electricity went off at my home, and a lot when was working; and
always save my job because my UPS gaves me the opportunity to continue working with nothing to regret.

I use a model with 800 watts, with filter and stabilizer, and can feed two computers, two active monitors, 40 inches LCD televisor, a Genos and a
keyboard controller.

Great opinions and advises, thanks to all.

I will definitely invest in a mid-range UPS to protect my electronics at my home studio. Thank God I wasn't updating at that time, otherwise my newly bought Genos would be rendered useless. A 5k+ instrument should be put under surveillance all the time. If it makes me happy when playing then I should pay it back and protect this child.

@Ruben_Paris: Would you please share the model name of your UPS and price?

Thanks to all.
