Displays, Displays, Displays . . . . .

Unread post by parametric »

And also some PSUs, knobs, sliders and a few other items . . .

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-5348 ... olid=20008

Covers Many boards both old and new - and some I've never heard of . . . . :confusion-confused:

These items are not over-cheap, but if they turn your "unusable" into a going concern - perhaps they're the answer?

This guy DOES have 100% positive feedback . . . .

According to the example I looked at (The Fusion6/8HD OLED Display) - it arrives "Plug and Play" with no

soldering required. This then reasonably justifies the higher price (IMO) - as the work has already been done? . (Y)

Feedback would be good to know - if someone follows through with one of these . . (Y)

No feedback yet, but I am in discussion with the shop vendor on a "project" he is doing, which I will be testing out a sample when it is ready, and will be posting my experience. The vendor seems a genuine guy, who is prepared to invest in R&D to make these products plug and play, which as you say, will be reflected in the price.

That's great news Derek . . . My impressions of the guy too from his feedback . . .

With members increasingly wishing to revive their treasured older boards - this is precisely the sort of resource

we want to encourage. What a good idea to trial one of his "builds"! (Y)

Indeed, Chris, and it is worth remembering that not everybody is comfortable with taking a soldering iron and modifying a synth to make these displays work, where you can, and I have done, complete an upgrade for a lower price - but invariably it will take you longer (how much would you cost your time at?).

That option is there for those that are savvy - I am lucky in that my electronics background gives me the skills and confidence to do that, as I have done to my SY77, SY99 and TG77, but for others, the option of a plug and play display makes such upgrades available to those who can wield a screwdriver, take pictures and put things back together in the reverse of the order that they took them apart in! :D

I've got a beginner electronics kit I still have to take out and fiddle with one of these days. I hope soldering electronics is easier than soldering pipes, never could get the hang of that, always have to call the plumber.

Just a general cautionary note:

Older Boards were build BEFORE the days of LEAD-FREE SOLDER . . . .

If you are soldering an "older" board - Source some Lead-bearing Solder for the job.

Using the newer solder does NOT work well and can be detrimental to the tracking on the pcb . . . .
