new libraries

Unread post by larryj » Mon Jun 03, 2019 1:21 pm

just received a reply from Dave Polich regarding new libraries for the montage and the modx. his first release in about a month will be Vintage Keys, I have purchased several libraries from him for my mox6 and to me were one of the best.

I read a few messages (on YamahaSynth.com, I believe) stating that this source offered ensembles for the Montage that included many programs that did not work or were duplicates. I believe that much of the material may have originally been developed for the Motif. I know that one or two individuals may generate negative comments that are without merit. Still, I would want to see if there is any substance to the complaints while shopping for such material, as it is very difficult to seek restitution after purchase.

I think this was mentioned somewhere else on the forum but as I understand it you are correct in that this is essentially the same library created for Motif. This is not necessarily a bad thing as long as it has been updated to take advantage of the extra power of the MODX and Montage.

Of course if they simply don't work it is not great but I would have thought it would have all been tested and checked out before release. Can't really imagine Dave Polich putting out a library of sounds that will not work on the the instrument it is intended for.

Here is the post I am referring to:

I should mention that in hunting for that particular post, I found far more positive ones regarding Mr. Polich.

This was my post. In the end Yamahamusicsoft fully refunded me because they couldn't offer compatible libraries despite what they wrote in their promotion. That was nice of them, but anyway I lost trust in them and will never buy anything from them.

I have no idea if those damaged libraries were repaired and are compatible with Montage.

I don't know anything about Mr. Polich, and can speak of him only from my experience. His attitude to reported problem with his products was not too constructive. To sell a product which is not compatible and promote is as compatible is far from professional behavior. Especially when he confirmed by mail that he is aware of problems. So why he didn't stop selling it?
Another problem is to offer two subsets of instrumental library without any mentioning that all those sounds are included in the main library. Yamahamusicsoft didn't offer patch and sample lists for these sets (unlike others from other producers) so there's no chance to recognize that they are only subsets, not additional sounds. Rather tricky.

Thanks for the update Daniel. Definitely doesn't look good. I guess it is a lesson in trust. We trust these products because they are sold via Yamaha but the reality is that this does not always mean they are top quality or match our expectations. Some of Yamaha's own products are sometimes overpriced and over hyped. THRII?

Anyway glad to hear you finally got a refund and also I am very glad you had the opportunity to post your experiences here. (Y)
