MODX and CUBASE,WOW!!!

Unread post by Patrick » Fri Jul 19, 2019 6:17 am

I finally started up Cubase.
This is so awesome!
I have nearly zero info on CUBASE,
So I just used CUBASEs MODX midi template,
and the minute I started CUBASE with MODX I got the MODX connect pop up.
So I imported a MODX performance into Cubase and everything was ready to go.
Hit record on CUBASE and started playing the MODX performance.
Hit playback on CUBASE and the performance played back everything,
even the MODX automations and the super knob movements, everything.
And then I tried inserting RG5 acoustic guitar VST into a track and that went well too.
Its amazing,
I thought I would have a lot of latancy playing the guitar VST from MODX, but to my amazement it was very playable.

I cannot believe I was intimidated by software DAW.
Software DAWs are clearly superior.

I can completely bypass MODX internal performance recorder to scetch out ideas and create whole songs.
In the long run, I can already tell that CUBASE is going to be easier to use.

I am sure there will be more than a few snags along the way, but i am off to a great start.

This is musically life changing. :D :D :D

Very happy to hear you are getting on with Cubase so well Patrick (Y)

Personally I only ever use computer based DAW's. I have never been able to work with hardware sequencers although I know there are many who would find working with software just as difficult. Each to their own and all that ;)

Perhaps your experience will encourage others to look at using the MODX with Cubase ((i))

I do hope others like me will read this post.
I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, so if i can learn CUBASE then just about anyone can.

Although i have been encountering some frustration trying to figure out how everything works.
I just keep going over it until I figure out the function im trying to learn,
and I have tons of CUBASE reference tutorial videos if I cant figure something out.
I will be registering on the CUBASE forums too, for additional knowledge.
Now that I basically dived in the DAW pool,
I have to say that DAW software is just to good to not want to use it.

Buying MODX with CUBASE AI was the best musical decision i have ever made.
I will never go back to hardware sequencers again.

Glad you made this post.

There is an ongoing debate about Yamaha’s omission of a “proper sequencer” on the Montage and MODX.

Personally I think they made the right choice. Give me a choice between trying to use a sequence on a tiny LCD of a Workstation compared to Cubase viewed on two 1080p monitors, and it is no contest!

Part of the the reason i sold my KRONOS was,
I couldnt see the sequencer mode as well as the other modes.

I guess the KRONOS sequencer had so much to display it was all crammed in that little lcd.
Now i see that KRONOS sequencer wasnt what i needed.
Also,
the audio side of it wasnt really as functional as what i needed to get the job done.

It is really nice to have my CUBASE daw sequencer on a much bigger laptop lcd.
Plus i have a second 40 inch monitor i can view my sequencer on too.

BTW,
Hope it didnt deem like i was bashing KRONOS.
With the exception of the sequencer, i still think KRONOS is among the greatest synths in the world.

I agree about the power of the Kronos :) A Montage and Kronos combination is heaven..... :D

I only ever used the Kronos sequencer once in late 2014, but that was to play back backing tracks on stage that I had created in Cubase. :)

It was fine for that, and for that particular project, I wanted to travel light and only take out the Kronos (not my usual full stage rig which uses Cantabile on a PC for sequencing duties)
