Regarding rhythms and samplers

Unread post by marcos.zy »

Hi,

What does it means when someone announces a keyboard for sale and says it already has "several rhythms and samplers" included?

These are things created by the user, or loaded from external sources?

I guess it depends on the keyboard. Rhythms and sampler(s)? What keyboard is it?

You can't add internal "samplers" to a keyboard, so presumably they meant "samples," or voices. They're probably saying that they've already installed one or more of the "Voice & Style Expansion" packs that Yamaha sells or gives away for free for the PSR-S650.

Note that different PSR-S models have differing amounts of expansion memory, which determines how many expansion packs you can install at the same time. I'm not sure how much the PSR-S650 holds, but it has less than the PSR-S750, which in turn has less than the PSR-S950. I think the newer models (670/770/970 and 775/975) have even more expansion memory than the 650/750/950 models did.

If you've got multiple Voice & Style Expansion packs but don't have enough expansion memory to install them all at once, I think the Yamaha Expansion Manager might let you select specific voices and styles that you're interested in from among the packs and create a new pack from them-- but I'm not certain about that, as I have zero experience with the PSR-S models.

Ok so in that case I think the advertiser is referring to the fact that the PSR S650 has 16mb of memory onboard into which you can import new voices and styles.

Undestood. Thanks a lot, Saul and SeaGtGruff. :)

I totally did not know about all of these things. Great to know. Sad to know my keyboard does not allows that. :(

If you connect to a computer, you can use your keyboard to play all sorts of sounds on your computer. I do this all the time, and it lets me use "analog synthesizer" sounds which would be impossible to create on a PSR keyboard. I've also got some orchestral sounds, although I'm more fascinated by analog synthesizers. :)

I have a lot of fun using my keyboards as controllers to play software synthesizers and other virtual instruments on my computer, so I expect you'll find it to be an interesting experience. :)

Hi,

I expect the same. I have a licence for FL Studio: do you know if can it be used with this keyboard?

I just need to purchase a cable, now.

I don't have any experience with FL Studio, but I expect that the keyboard should work with any DAW.

Not too long, or it might have trouble. The manual should tell you the recommended maximum length of a USB cable. If you go over that length, there can be problems with the signal.
