49-61 Key Keyboard

Unread post by puremusic » Thu Aug 15, 2019 6:00 am

If you were to buy a 49-61 key keyboard today, with the requirements being, non-synth action, and having aftertouch, what would you get?

Considering a keyboard for my side desk.

Right now, I have my eye on the Novation 61SL MKIII, but I am thinking maybe I should consider vintage synths too and stuff with built in sounds. I just tend not to like synth action, I prefer semi-weighted at least, so that puts off limits a lot of choices I'd otherwise go for.

I'm not saying I'd never buy a synth action keyboard, I might adjust to it in the end, but it might also wind up resold or put aside and hooked up to be controlled by MIDI for its sounds, and really what I want right now is something to actually play. :D

I've been interested in the Novation Impulse for a while, and it meets your requirements of non-synth action plus aftertouch.

Yes I remember that one, it has a good reputation I think, and a nice price. I simply ignored it for aesthetic reasons, I didn't care for the red endpieces. I'm sure that'd be an easy thing to fix though. :D

I can highly recommend these keyboards as I have owned them myself:

Arturia Keylab MKII

Native Instruments KOMPLETE KONTROL S49 MK2

All of those have great semi-weighted keys and build quality is excellent.

You know, I always thought the end pieces were brown-- or reddish brown-- like wood. But looking at the pictures again, I can see that they're definitely red!
