PSR-E463 - Quantity of keys and problems

Unread post by marcos.zy » Wed Aug 21, 2019 9:49 pm

Hey friends, could you please help me and/or give me some advices on this matter, please? :)

Any (or most) of you have keyboards with 61 keys, as PSR-E463 (mine)?

How do you handle with musics/scores which requires notes "out of the range"? I know about the transpose and octaves changing on 463. But this is not very comfortable in the middle of a music.

Because the normal piano I was used to it (as all pianos) had 88 keys. And now I have only 61.

How do you handle with that?

Probably the most elegant solution is to buy an 88-note controller keyboard . . . .

M-Audio Keystation 88 MkII - https://www.thomann.de/gb/m_audio_keyst ... da72e26d01

THIS one has DIN midi and midi over usb but beware - MANY such boards only have midi over usb . . . . .

Also, this is a cheap board and so does not have a Piano-action keybed . . .just velocity sensitive (No AT also)

You will need to pay more to get Hammer-action if that is important. . . .

sorry - I meant that to get 88-note "playability" you need an 88-note controller or master keyboard to drive the PSR-E456 via midi . . . .

I know of no other way to do this. Sadly, I don't think the PSRs ever appeared in 88-note form?

Thank you. I understood. :)

So, how do you guys handle with keyboards with less than 88 keys, when the music needs more than 61, for example? Do you have any tips? I already have the PSR-E463.

My guess is most would get an 88-key controller keyboard.

I understand, but the 88-key controller will not replace your PSR-E463, but rather will work with it to provide access to the full piano range. They are not incredibly expensive, but I do understand the requirement of keeping to a budget.

Does the PSR-E463 have an octave shift feature that is easily accessed? I have a M-Audio 32-key controller that I can shift up and down the piano range at the quick touch of a button. Something like that might go a long way if your keyboard is so equipped.

I think it has something similar. There's a button called "transpose". Maybe this works.

IMO - the octave-shift button is a kludge . . . .

Yes - it works, but is not comfortable for a pianist used to playing on 88 notes.

It screws around with your brain, when a note suddenly sounds an octave lower than it did a moment ago . . . .

However, if you are simply manufacturing a performance that covers 88 notes as MIDI in a DAW, then the PSR WILL

play those notes that are outside the 61 note range just fine - when played back TO the E346.

For actually PLAYING, you will need an 88-note Master or Controller keyboard.

Thank you parametric.

So, I'm curious: how many keys has your main keyboard?

I use my faithful EX5!

76 keys is the right size for a synth keyboard.
