Does the new 10-II have all the features of the 10x? 10x had Brown I and Brown II which sound pretty much like van halen out of the box. Can the new 10-II do that? Does the new 10-II have as much high gain as the 10x?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum and the string section. :D

The new THR II series amps haven't hit all stores worldwide, and owners are not many right now.

In the "modern" settings, BROWN SOUND should be available, but I doubt that it's EXACTLY as the THR-10X.

The biggest issue (imo) is that you can't use the patches and libraries created on the THR-10 models including C and X models.

Best Regards
Peter

Seriously difficult decision between the new katana mkii or this.. this looks sweet but the price point is sky high.. for the big one full wireless 600 usd.. can get a boss katana head and have lot left over. Love the old x series the. Didn’t like the c and the regular had a good clean and crunch sound. Full wireless looks awesome but not sure I can justify 600 bucks for a practice only amp with 3.5 inch speakers

Seriously at 499 usd and the wireless transmitter included it would be hard not to pull the trigger. Pricey still but I probably would but 600 all in.. can’t do it.. got a blackstar core id beam for 150 bucks I can put a wireless adapter on there and then only one cable.. it sounds pretty good as well. Maybe not as good but not 350 difference in sound.

Price is the real issue with the THRII series. Did no one at Yamaha look outside the corporate bubble and grasp the fact that money is not exactly flowing into people's pockets these days? It's often difficult enough just to make a living but to spend £499 on a "practice amp" AND then need to cough up yet more just to use the built in wireless feature? I just don't get it :confusion-confused:

Boss Katana Air represents far better value for money and it sounds great too...well I think it does anyway. I know there is a "Yamaha" sound and many will prefer that but..that hefty price tag is holding them back. Oh and not forgetting of course that some chinless wonder had the great idea of making the THRII incompatible with the original THR's patches

What has a smartphone got to do with it? A smartphone...which most people have already, does far more than a single purpose practice amp. The tech is far more complex and it is a lot more useful.

The THRII is overpriced. It doesn't even come with the wireless transmitter for your guitar! Yamaha is asking a premium price for a less than premium product.

Here's a fresh tubeclip also showing the THR remote software in action. (starting at 1:47)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZVuJuooGP0

The software is absolutely user friendly but not able to use the old userfiles from the older THR models. :x  :o
This is imo. the biggest flaw since we have to "re-invent" all the fantastic patches and libraries already made.

Thanks Peter :)

Has anyone explained why Yamaha went down the route of not allowing backward compatibility with old THR patches? I haven't seen anything and Yamaha are not saying but there must be a good reason?

I have no idea why they didn't include use of old pacthes. :?

Maybe a firmware upgrade will allow it.

Anyway, even though it's a major bummer,
I will probably start creating patches for the THR II series once i can afford one of these expensive beasts.

I doubt it will totally replace my old THR amps, (the massive work uploaded by users is just too great to abandon)
but I do see some brilliant features on the THR-30 II amp that might make this my main goto amp, in the future.

The first THR series was a worldwide success even though you had to buy several amps to get the full ability to use and share patches.
For me it was still worth it simply because the amps sounds incredibly good and so many patches was shared.
Just about ANY sound imagined could be created on those small monsters, without having to be a sound engineer.

For the time being, I WILL BITCH about price and incompatibility of the THR II series
but eventually I will look at them expecting even better sound due to the redesigned speaker cabinet and extra features.

 Reminds me a bit of what photobucket did, they made you start all over redoing your work, made through years  :/:

Yeah I'll complain a LOT about price and lack of backward compatibility but I will no doubt end up with one eventually...and I think Yamaha know that

I am a previous 10 and 10C owner. Both were amazing units. Hard to believe these things could sound so good. I recently received my THR II 30W. This thing is equally amazing. The features are great. Can do pretty much anything with it. The wireless works great. The connectivity is outstanding. I tried the line out to my studio monitors. Sounded amazing. I am a little disappointed that the old THR libraries are not compatible but this will allow for a whole new crop of patches to be developed. 30 watts when plugged in sounds great too. Pretty loud for a desktop practice amp. Would like to have more effects available. The iOS app works very well as does the Mac OS version. Rechargeable battery is a great feature. They have packed this thing pretty good. For what is may be lacking it more than makes up for it what was added. Look forward to new patches and comment.

Thanks for that mini review GuitarNut1 and also welcome to the forums :)

There is no doubt that the THRII is a nice amp but I still think they should have bundled the G10s with it. Also they should have kept compatibility with the original THR patches. And so far I can't see any technical reason for not doing either.

Hi GuitarNut, welcome to the forum and the string section. :D

A hands on review like yours is what makes me want the THR-30 II .
I already expect it to be totally awesome, you just confirmed it.

The price does however put it in second position of other purchases I MUST do before winter comes rolling in.
This includes buying 5 tons of wood pellets for the entire heating system.
Eventually I will buy a THR-30 II, and start getting familiar with the settings and making patches to upload.

We will either start a new THR II patch and library download section topic,
or just add it to the existing topic. (I have left some space vacant to expand.)

Best Regards
Peter

One big question came to mind …….
Does the THR-30 II do almost quiet as well as the old THR models ?
