Cyber Monday!

Unread post by Saul » Mon Dec 02, 2019 1:14 am

As ridiculous as all these so called "sales" events are becoming there are actually some real big bargains out there.

Is there a difference between 'Black Friday' and 'Cyber Monday'? not much. The former is traditionally a day when in-store items would be marked down, sometimes as low as cost price in order to clear stock and get the balance books back in the "black".

Cyber Monday was really all about online sales. However, given that we are now at a stage when roughly 78% of people now shop online, the two discount events are pretty much the same thing. Probably why they merge into one another and last a whole week or more.

I can't say I have seen any massive bargains so far but that is not the say they are not out there. With that in mind, if anyone does spot any bargains, particularly music software related can you please post them in this thread? (Y)

I usually do most of my Christmas shopping online and am finished by the 1st of November. This year we still had more to do. We have scored on some amazing deals for Black Friday and the ads still show good deals through Cyber Monday. I've been really surprised. Guitar Center had some crazy deals when we went there. I had printed the Casio CT-X800 with the sale price from the GC website. It was interesting because the sale price was $29 more in the store. Not a lot, but it's not a bad idea to copy the good deal and bring it with you. There is sometimes a difference between in-store and online prices. They will honor the online price usually.

I agree, Shelly.

I purchased my Kronos and Montage from PMT in-store after demoing them, but I was forearmed with the best internet deals as well, which they price matched on both. I don;t think it is fair on shops for people to try the gear out and then go and buy on-line, so I always try and buy large items from shops where I can, and I want to demo them as well, anyway.

There have been some good deals about. I needed a hard flight case for my new Prophet X, and Swan Flight, who I buy all my flight cases from, had a 25% sale, so not a bad saving on what is normally a £200 flight case.

And ROLI had 50% of selected items in their Seaboard blocks range, which is a hell of a saving. I’ve been toying with the idea of an MPE keyboard for a while but always felt that they were a tad pricey. And coupled with that, Cypher 2 (an MPE compatible soft synth) also had 40% off. 40-50% off means that my Christmas is sorted, and I look forward to messing with MPE over the break. :)

Sure, sometimes you see flash deals like these outside of this sale period, but I am not worried about that. I chose carefully and got what I wanted at the price I was much happier with. :)

Awesome Derek!
Takes the sting out when you can get a good price. And if you get it for a steal-of-a-deal, then it's not just an acquisition, it's a trophy! :D I usually buy electronics from a local store, especially large items. You can take it back if you have a problem with it. It was only a little over $25 for a 2 year extended warranty for the Casio.

I definitely agree that buying in store is preferable to buying online, if you can of course. As we all know though there are less and less bricks and mortar stores about these days, especially when talking about musical instruments. The one down the road from me is closing down.

Luckily I live not far from Brighton, which has a plethora of music stores covering just about any instrument you can think of. And then I have three of the countries major music stores within 25-35 miles. All will match online prices too so no excuse for not dropping in, trying the gear and buying there and then :)

For software of course it is a different situation. You can easily demo online and then buy the download. I upgraded my version of Pianoteq to version 6.6 Studio Bundle last night for just €25 and that is an absolute steal :) An incredible piece of software and although I have other virtual pianos I would say this is definitely the one that gets the most use.

Time & Space have got some great offers on at the moment with up to 93% off some products!
https://www.timespace.com/pages/offers

I am considering Cinesamples Tina Guo Vol. 2 and Cinesamples Taylor Davis but still not sure. Need to see what Native Instruments have or even if I already have something like this that I can use.

Saul:
Not sure if there is anything here. I shop on the Sweetwater website: They do tend to inflate the "retail value", like, LOTS. Probably many music webstores having sales right now.. They didn't have the Native instruments guitar software I was looking for though. I'll get that somewhere else eventually.. Th

https://www.sweetwater.com/sale/2019-bl ... k/software

There is a guy there who will offer special deals. He made me a REALLY good offer for the EK-50 that I almost went for. He's done that before with other things. Here's an email he sent me..

Hey Shelly

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! I wanted to give you a heads up if you are shopping around over the next few days and what you are looking for is NOT on sale on the website, give me a ring and I'll see if I can make something happen for you. We will also have some special deals for Monday too, but I can make some extra things happen until then as well. I'm happy to take a look at prices you see on other websites too. I'd rather you get a great deal and me be able to back you up later than you have to deal with other places.

Thanks again!

Hi, Saul

Just wondering where you saw this offer. I have been on the modartt website and can see nothing like that. I have Pianoteq 6 standard, which is fine for me, but if such steals are about.....

Shelly, the Native instruments Guitar packs are available direct from their website:
https://www.native-instruments.com/en/c ... te/guitar/

The two Strummed Acoustic packs are on discount but the Picked Acoustic is still full price...probably because it is fairly new.

Nice to see Sweetwater are being proactive in reaching out to customers, especially the price matching which is very important these days (Y)

Maybe because I already had the Pro version? Not sure exactly. I logged into my account, clicked upgrade and there it was 6.6 Studio Bundle.

This is what I had before the upgrade:

Thanks, Saul

Will need to check later, but I guess it must be because i only have the base option (which is fine for my)

PS: just noticed that UJAM have 50% off their virtual drummers, bass players and guitar players until tomorrow. So for anybody who needs virtual jam buddies, they are well worth checking out. (UJAM are ex Wizoo who did the Steinberg virtual bass player and guitarist).

Are they any good? Yes. And I find when I am composing on my own they are good inspiration.

Please, help me

I am debating on upgrading my Komplete 12 to Komplete 12 Ultimate Collectors Edition (K12U CE for short), on offer until Monday.

What shines on that option for me are the orchestral Symphony Series, as they are the full versions on K12U CE, compared to Essential on K12U (Ultimate). I know they are not the best orchestral libraries around, but for a bit more than 400€, I would get a ton more of items besides the orchestral libraries. And I own a Komplete Kontrol 61 MkII and a Maschine Mk3 to work with the new goodies

I am a beginner in music in general, just two years on it, but I love orchestral arrangements and I am working hard to learn... So I think the NI libraries would be more than enough for me.

Your take, please?

Thanks,

Jose

I also ended up getting some UJAM virtual players to replace Steinberg virtual guitarist and virtual bassist (great tools to help you sketch ideas when you are on your own). UJAM was formed out of Wizzoo who did the original virtual products from Steinberg.

I wasn't planning on those, but at the bargain price they were at for the complete collection, I decided to get them now.

So plenty of bargains, you just need to know when it is a bargain. :)
